Will it hurt to transmit for extended periods, more than briefly taking readings, where it could damage you CB Radio internals?

While the SWR meter is hooked up, does it impair normal reception?

    Thank you

You can keep the meter in line forever, not a big deal.

However if you have a high swr, don't key down longer than a couple seconds. You can burn out your final. If it is high like over 3:1

Yeah some are, I run a wire out the window with a radio running 10 watts, it works with no "tuner" involved and don't even care to check what the swr is, maybe 10:1 but I made contacts across the country.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Hell i know it makes almost zero difference but if im only a cpl points off resonance and or a point or two off swr,out comes the aa to tweek..
I know im a nut case but im tryin to keep what range i get n such as high as possible which is not alot..
Although the other day goin down past carlisle pa i did hear the cb man at exit 52 and i was south bount 81 at the 22 yard stick before i totally lost him..After about 10-15 mi it was difficult to understand but i could make out his voice..

As for running a inline swr meter..Yeah you can but you have to accept a tweenie weenie lil bit of loss..Without a scope i doubt you would notice the diff..

So do you retune your antenna every time you change channels? If you are getting out 8-10 miles or whatever on your resonant freq, drop 5-10 even 20 channels, and you'll still be getting out 8-10 miles.:)

you can if you wanna tune your ant for that ch you wish..Just to keep it simple your tuning for the middle of the cb band which is ch 19..
The further you wander from your resonate freq the less range you will have,BUT you will never notice any real difference....
