No I’d say your doing perfectly for a 96. Back in 96 I remember my Dad greasing after every trip to CA and back. So about 4500 miles and doing oil every 3 trips so 13,500 miles. So you may be a little early on some things but sure won’t hurt anything except your time and pocket book a bit. Time you may recover though due to increased longevity.

I do it at 20k miles but that’s still much sooner then 30 or even 45k they are recommending now. Grease well... I’d like to do it more but isn’t feasible for me right now. Besides my used trucks I’ve bought I only run about 250 to 300k miles before selling. The new trucks don’t even have grease zerks in the driveshaft believe it or not.

Oh and btw day rider he’s still got that 96 and has over 1 million without a rebuild. N14. W900

No zerks on the driveshaft? Is it all done through that zerk panel under the hood?

It’s crazy but it’s a “dry” setup. I had never saw such a thing until I got under to grease and couldn’t find a zerk to save my life.

    Leopard and JonJon78 Thank this.

New FL trucks need semi to not void the warranty... It may be catching on soon.

Semi synthetic because it’s recommended by the manufacturer. 60,000 is not to long for your engine, you have 3 oil filters, 2 are full flow and one is a bypass. Oil is being kept clean with the lower micron bypass filter, that’s how they extended the recommended service interval.

Extended service intervals were part of the green house gas reduction rules that manufacturers were forced to adapt to make their trucks more environmentally friendly.

So its just like the rest of the emissions? Nobody knows if it works but it complies with the new standards.
