It seldon is.
Remember a few years ago the woman whose nephew broke her arm? Her health insurance wouldn't cover the cost of setting the bone unless she sued her brother (or sister). The woman did, the brother (or sister) experienced no out of pocket expense, and the whole thing was water under the bridge. That is until the insurance company made a public post, the resulting vitriol forced the woman to change her name.
Insurance is for cataclysmic occurrence. Hoping insurance will actually cover what you're paying for is like hopping an NBA team will take you in the first round of the draft. Sure it's possible, but get serious.

Were you delivering at Sysco? I thought they used those lifts that didn't have the sharp forks like the traditional forklifts have.
Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
#### happens. Sucks people are careless towards other people equipment. What is there to do other than to chalk it up as a battle scar ? My trailer deck looks way worse than yours. Ive got holes in my floor , scrapes and scratches from hauling rock

That IS a cataclysmic occurrence. The ####ing trailer is junk now unless the entire floor is replaced. Welding a section in will crack, I know, I've had it done on other trailers. Not to mention the heat creates a void in the insulation.
If I do continue to use the trailer, the floor will rot in that section and sag inside of a year.
I've had the trailer for 65 ####ing days! Haven't even made the second payment on it and now it needs a floor which will cost over $10k.slow.rider, TokyoJoe, nredfor88 and 4 others Thank this. -
Reefer trailers are an entirely different animal. Any holes in the interior will saturate the insulation with water which renders it absolutely useless. Not to mention inviting rot in the wood crossmembers.
Unless the floor is replaced, I could never haul fresh meat, iced produce, anything that isn't dry and can never wash it out again if I want it to last more than a year.
I have two reefer trailers sitting in my yard with bad floors due to water intrusion from cracks. Holes are Kryptonite for reefers.slow.rider, Speed_Drums, Ol'Shusquatch and 3 others Thank this. -
I do food service and have never run a reefer over the road. Would you order your trailer like ours where you have several side doors. That way when you being loaded or unloaded you can open the door and watch without being on the dock?
Lite bug Thanks this. -
I don't think it matters what insurance, we will see more and more of this as insurance carriers are trying to cover their clients in multi vehicle pileups, and still keep their swanky lifestyles. Sorry, I won't give those crooks any more than I have to, and if you are an O/O today, you're just asking for it. Ironically, it was insurance that was suppose to help us, now it's the kiss of death. This is nothing, just wait until someone rear ends your truck, and "The Strong Arm" takes you to the cleaners for just being there.slow.rider and Lite bug Thank this.

Yes, I was delivering there. The dock I was in is very steep. Not sure what type of equipment they use (can't go in the warehouse anymore thanks to China) but I'm guessing like most grocery warehouses, it's a ride on pallet jack.
Looks like they went in at an angle on both sides to get the rear pallets and because of the steep angle of the dock, rammed the floor ribs. I should have known better when I saw someone had swept their trailer out at the dock and there were huge curls of aluminum shavings all over the ground.slow.rider, nredfor88, Lite bug and 1 other person Thank this. -
A lot of food service trailers have flat floors, which probably arent as easy to damage.
My '99 that is still sitting in my yard made it 25+ years of service with hardly a ding inside. Even the Kemlite is intact. I didn't pay much for that trailer and never had an issue with loaders abusing it. Corrosion on the floor and pinholes that caused floor failure is the only reason it had to be pulled from service.
Now that I spent $75k on a new one, complete with a nice lighted interior, seems like every mother####er wants to play forklift demolition derby inside. In 65 days, the floor and kick plates are gouged up 100 times worse than my '99.
I'm going to install cameras in the back when/if I put it back on the road, and if I see any ######## going on, I'll be in the receiving office tearing someone a new #######.Speed_Drums, alds, nredfor88 and 3 others Thank this. -
Goodness man. I feel for you. Even with those ride on pallet Jack's, that's too careless. People need to pay better attention at these places. If I were a company owner or owner op, it'd drive me crazy too.lilillill Thanks this.
