My plan is 6-12 months of food service then go to LTL such as ODFL, or Estes or something along those lines.Another Canadian driver, Albertaflatbed and bzinger Thank this.

I’m 62 years old. I was working for US Foods up until I was almost 60; was right up in there in the truck, lifting, sorting, unloading into stores with a two wheeler going up and down stairs… all while driving and backing in to really tight spots in New England’s worst weather.
I kept right up with all the younger guys, no problem. And I’m nothing special.. just an average clown trying to make an honest living.
My point here is this: Foodservice companies such as US Foods, Gordon, Sysco, etc. are all great paying jobs and almost anyone can work them, it just might take a month or two to get into the proper conditioning which will happen provided you simply show up to work everyday. Once you’re in the loop, it’s no problem at all and is really rewarding… both physically as well as financially;
$2000.00 plus per week gross income is very doable. I’m willing to bet that even many owner operators don’t make that.
Don’t listen to anyone telling you how difficult these jobs are; speaking from real, personal experience, anyone that writes of the ‘horror stories’ of these companies either has no experience with them whatsoever and/ or they are really just plain lazy.Another Canadian driver, Radman, Albertaflatbed and 5 others Thank this. -
Exactly. I think it’s all kindve a mind game. I’m 30, but not in the best of shape but I want to be. I think food service will help me get into better shape and make great money at the same timeAnother Canadian driver and Albertaflatbed Thank this.

I don’t think there are too many basements here in south Ga. Sysco was hiring in Douglas Ga awhile back, but they said they wanted 1 year of experience. Also, I looked up there location to see exactly how long of a commute it’d be from my residence, but nothing came up. They have locations in Savannah, Atlanta, etc. but nothing for Douglas (not Douglasville, which is way farther north).

See they say no experience required here but us foods says 6 months. Just says 6 months cdl experience not class A so I’ll see if they take my 3 years of class b lolAnother Canadian driver and Albertaflatbed Thank this.

Same with me; got plenty of Class B exp. but only 6 months of Class A. Some Sysco terminals actually have Class B driving positions.Another Canadian driver and Albertaflatbed Thank this.
