Just dropped off a 46000-lb. manlifter in Canton, OH. Nice, long run (2300 miles or so). I didn't spend a single night at a truck stop. Just used rest areas. My schedule was messed up, so I was driving late each night. Finding a truck stop with empty spots after 9pm is just more hassle than it's worth to me unless I've been there before and know it's huge. So, I used rest areas for sleep and took a shower at my fuel stop.
Had a hiccup at the start as I was already a bit delayed to give another driver a ride. Did my pre-trip and got an ABS malfunction. Had to wait until 12pm to get started, then the guy dropped his cellphone into my dash (someone had removed the defroster cover on the passenger side of the truck. I never noticed it). Spent two hours tearing the dash apart and finally had to give up.
Basically a delightful drive. I had been warned the load was top-heavy, but it wasn't really. (I've had way worse on molding and lumber). Drove through a spectacular thunderstorm near Bismarck, ND, other than that, easy peasy all the way.
Now I sit, waiting for another dispatch. I unloaded at 630am EST and dispatch has nothing for me at the moment. Probably gonna be here a couple of hours since my dispatcher won't be in til 7am Pacific.jomar68 and Sneakerfix Thank this. -

Rough week. Got a load from Cleveland to Chicago, dropped it and wasted two hours swapping trailers with another driver. Picked up another load late Friday eve for Portland, OR and broke down in Wisconsin Sat. Got stuck in a hotel til Tuesday, get my truck and hook up to an empty trailer someone dropped off for me when they took my load... Darn trailer dropped off the fifth wheel. Broken locking teeth. Looked fine when you hook up, just wouldn't stay locked
Another night in Wisconsin, finally get my truck Wed evening, get a load, drop it in Racine, WI then onto Chicago. Spent SEVEN hours getting loaded. Had to take my 10 there as I was way over 14 by the time they found the last box and got my bol. Dodged the worst of the traffic out this am but it still took forever.
Only made 507 miles today. Minor, but time-consuming securement adjustments, tarp tweaking, etc. 12 hour day and I just called it a day with 2 hours left. Usually I feel pretty bad with less than 575-625. Today I feel like I worked my butt off for 500.
Hoping a good sleep will get me back on track for tomorrow. I've got over 1900 left on this load and not a lot of wiggle room, so I'm gonna have to really hustle this weekend. -
EMJ load?

Not this one. But I wouldn't post a customer name or destination anyway til after the fact.
Sneakerfix Thanks this. -
Ya, you never know who's lurking.
I've enjoyed your thread. I'm a southwestern cousin.
I have thought about starting a thread several times, since starting as a noob+. But, my temperament would only make me look like a bitter old man(which I am.)
Keep up the good reporting!Sneakerfix Thanks this. -
Tried to sign up with System just outta cdl school but they didn't care for my work history (short retail jobs).
-
That's interesting, since you changed fields and completed school. And, like every other large company they have a lot of empty trucks...
-
Well short work durations look bad to a truck company. They don't want someone jumping ship early.
