Hey Ruger, I have a friend down in the Phoenix area wondering about system. Do they have a reefer division or just open deck? He wants to be a door slammer

we have a sister company called TWT... they run green trucks and haul reefers and few dry vans... not sure how much they run to AZ but they run mostly only west coast with a few team runs out to the Carolinas. they start at a little lower pay rate than system guys but I talked to another flatbedder tonight whos buddy makes less per mile but is making more money per week and he runs for TWT... thnking of switching sides myself

I was getting excited! ... Then I saw starting pay of .32-.34 and no company drivers out of PHX...

really want to run western regional somewhere, but I'm not willing to drop .10cpm to do it!

I run NW & Canada so I can't give you any specifics about how they run the Phoenix fleet. Far as I know, howewver, they are not O/O exclusively. I met a guy in the last month or so who was hired as a company driver based out of Phoenix.

34 cpm is for new drivers fresh out of CDL school. I would imagine they start an experienced driver higher than that.

I've been with them for two years and currently make 37.5 cpm. Not great but with stop, tarp and border pay, I do alright.

I'd suggest talking to one of their recruiters to get the most current info. Mike at the Spokane office is a straight shooter. Of the recruiters I know there, he's the only one you'll find out of the office talking with the drivers.

Can you tell me about additional pay?

Id rather hear it from a current driver than a recruiter.

i only have 5 moths flatbed experience. Currently I'm at .42 CPM. $50 tarp, $25 stop and .03 CPM for hazmat or canada loads. .08 CPM for OD loads. $15/hr detention and $50 second day of layover. Forced dispatch, all 48.

the only other thing I'd like is to run out west. Most of our loads are east of i35.

    How does system compare?

Again, I can only tell you what I make as a NW Regional company driver. Other fleets probably pay completely different rates.

Anyway... stop pay is $10 per stop including pickup... same with tarp pay. So you're looking at $20 minimum for stop pay and $20 minimum tarp pay on a regular load. I'd estimate maybe 25% of the loads I haul are tarped.

Canadian border pay is $100 per trip.

My last two OD loads were paid at 10 cents a mile extra. I've never really paid attention to how much they pay for OD, so I can't say if that's normal pay or not.

I've never hauled hazmat, so I can't say what they pay for that.

Detention/layover runs from nonexistent to completely insulting with an occasional "Hey. I didn't expect to get paid for that!"

For example... ran an OD load from Cheney, WA to Hillsboro, OR and had to sit on it for a day in Hillsboro before it could be delivered. Extra pay was $20 stop, $50 OD and $120 layover.

Another example... hauled a load of steel from Spokane' WA to Eugene, OR on Monday. Delivered Tuesday morning after two hours wait. Deadheaded up to Rainier, OR (164 miles) for a load of drywall that picks up sometime today (Wednesday) and delivers in Spokane Friday night. I can take Thursday off for Thanksgiving and expect to sit for at least four hours waiting to get unloaded. So I will have blown 4 days for a 600 mile run and don't expect to be paid anything for all the sitting.

Some shorter runs pay percentage, which is nice, but local work is usually paid at a whopping $12 per hour.

I have been pulling a conestoga up and down I-5 mainly and before that I was on the 200 fleet running all 48 and we don't get paid for the first and last stop only if it is two or more drops on the load. But the layover is a joke that's for sure. I have asked many times about detention and always get told no detention so that is frustrating
