    What's it like?

My truck was totaled Oct. 6. I'm getting royally screwed by the other guys insurance, and screwed even worse by my lender. I need a job until my lawyer straightens it out. Lowrie is telling me 1100-1400 per week pulling a curtain.

you would be lucky if you get one right away. they are brand new curtains. but you would have to run your tail off to consistently make that as take home every week. If I run really hard I can make a grand take home but its hard running. But it's possible if you don't like sleeping much

    Thanks Ruger.

They showed me the brand new trailer sitting in the yard & they're making it sound like they would really like me to work for them. I think it's worth a shot. I've met Mike Lowrie & his son, they both seemed like decent people. Paper logs & I've always figured I get paid to drive it, not to sleep in it. The equipment is for sure nice enough to run hard.

When I talked to them I didn't even ask about benefits. My girlfriend was after me to forget about buying another truck & just find a driving job I could keep til I retire. Then she kicked me out on Christmas Eve, so I've got no idea what I'm doing.

I'll be in Dixon tomorrow morning, I'll let you know if I'm in a pretty blue Pete.

I've been browsing the forums for weeks. I'm starting professional truck driving school on monday at a community college. It will be a 15 week training program. I went this route instead of DTS (Drivers training and solutions) 4 1/2 week training (Systems Trans Inc. recommended school) because I don't want to be limited to companies that I already know have bad reputation, Ie: Schneider, Werner, Swift... maybe Watkins and May. The only trucking company that caught my attention on the list (provided by DTS) was System Trans. I read nothing but good comments from this company until coming across the latest posts, I'm not too sure about working for them now, but may not have a choice. I'm hoping a 15 week training program opens up more doors for me. Are they still better than most companies that are willing to hire warm bodies fresh out of school? I was also thinking about applying for U.S. Xpress:biggrin_25511:, Abilene, and Pride. I'm still weeding out the good and bad companies that hire new students. If you have any recommendations of good or decent companies, please feel free to share them and I'll do the research. I don't like the idea of having to tarp for free and getting paid .32/cpm... maybe after a year of Reefer, Van, or possibly even tanker. From what I've read about this specialty, I don't think I'll do flat or deck beds for less than .40/cpm... don't want to take away high paying jobs from veterans by slaving away at .32/cpm.

Despite all the #### I don't regret starting there. It gave a solid foundation for a driving career.

I do t regret going there one bit. If you can I would try for the pole fleet. That will get you that .40 cpm. Brett is to this day the best dispatcher I've worked with. I actually still call just to bs every once and awhile. System is still one of the better starting companies you could go with.

If I had to do it over again I would still go there.. they were a good place to work but once you get some good experience it will be time to move on

Well this is my new set up. I couldn't get a job running on a bull rack because I'm not 23 yet. So i moved over here to SD and these guys told me the same as everybody else, but they offered to start me out on hopper bottoms, gradually train me on cattle and then switch me over when their insurance company will let me do it. Probably be dragging a bull rack by this summer or fall run at the latest. The new set up is pretty fun by itself though.

Over 102' long (I'm not positive how long exactly yet lol)
    154,000 gross weight (legally :D)
13 axles pushing down with the pusher axle
Paper logs and no speed governors. Lots of large cars and triple digit trucks lol.

I can make more money than i did with Systems in 5 days and still get the weekends off just pulling these hopper bottoms because we get paid Hourly :D.
