T/A breezewood is "ok".....
My stop used to be the All American in Carlisle, Yep, Back in the early 90's, I could get there at 8pm,Fuel my truck park it UP CLOSE or get some work done at the shop and STILL find decent parking.
Carlisle in 2013 is nothing but a frickin' mess! 53 foot trailers for as far as the eye can see...Every truck stop their now is filled to the brim.
On that Note....You really cant go anywhere these days and 'Breathe' without trucks bombarding the lots -
When started driving in '96 The All American at Carlisle was awesome in my opinion. Used to stop there then head out for Jersey early enough to miss traffic and still be on time. Ah good days!!!

I go camping right down the road from there every year on a friends farm. A girl he knows always comes and we have some good times together in my tent. I have to say it's a great place to get cleaned up and take a shower before/after tent sex. Nice showers. And some Chinese massage girls downstairs by the showers. Never got a massage from them since I was already going to get one in the tent but probably is nice after a long day of driving.
Why do I feel like a pervert after typing that?TruckDuo Thanks this. -

Might want to rethink that last statement, you certainly did get that white stuff down there, and judging by the way you people dealt with 3 WHOLE INCHES OF SNOW, I'll stay up here, thank you very much!!!!chopper103in Thanks this.

You ever left there and took a right and went up over the giant steep mountain? The one with all the signs warning about it? Ya I did once.
I had a load that delivered at the bottom on the other side. I forget the town name now. It was some time ago and this was during my first year OTR. I saw a truck coming down from there so I figured it couldn't be that bad to go that way versus the WAY longer way around. So I went for it. Boy oh boy was it bad. I don't remember the grade now but it was better than 10% up and than down the other side. And there were a few BRUTAL 90 degree corners going UP the mountain that were just crazy. I had a 13 speed and was in low gear barely moving going up with a fully loaded flatbed. A few times I thought for sure I was going to start going backwards.
And then the backside. Same story but downhill, I tried to go as slow as I could saving as much brake as possible. I did a good job because I never saw smoke coming off my brakes but there was a werner truck that I caught up to that had smoke ROLLING off his trailer brakes. I really thought I was going to see my first brake fire in front of me. But I didn't, and couldn't believe it because it was the most smoke I've ever seen still to this day coming off from brakes.
I learned, as I often learned a lot my first year, to heed signs with great respect and to do whatever it took to find another way and not be one of those guys in a youtube video stuck under a bridge or dragging my trailer off the side of the road on some back road sharp corner. I don't know if I just got lucky but I learn stuff all the time, even today, 10 years later. This might be the only job you can work 10+ years and keep learning.Suptrkr Thanks this.
