Truck is in the shop having a rebuild. Shop states the truck is a T680 but we know for absolute certain that the truck is a T300. How big of an impact will that discrepancy have when determining the cost of the repair? It is in the shop having the top half of the engine rebuilt.
T680 vs T300

Model of the truck should not have an Impact on price of the rebuild. Not sure how thy could mix that up,
Kens Transport Thanks this. -
Well, considering the fact that the T300 is a medium duty and the T680 is a Class 8, it could make a huge difference. As tnevin225 said, the model of the truck should have no bearing on the cost of a rebuild when comparing apples to apples, but comparing the T680 with the T300 is comparing apples to oranges. It's the engine that's being rebuilt, correct? The T680 probably has a 13L or 15L whereas the T300 probably has an 8.3L or something of that nature. Now, I don't know the cost of the smaller engine, but it would stand to reason that it would be cheaper than the bigger one.
LGarrison, Kens Transport and p608 Thank this. -
I'd be concerned if the shop cou ldnt tell the difference between a T680 and a T300. Like @Joetro says, comparing the 2 is like comparing apples and oranges.
Sublime, Kens Transport and Joetro Thank this. -
Thank you all for the response. I didn't think the cost would be the same. We have a 2003 T300, the shop states they are working on a 2014 T680. They also stated it would take a week and a half. It's now been a month. The loss of income is becoming a huge concern.

A 2014 T680 is going to be substantially different from a 2003 anything, let alone a T300.
If they bungled it that badly just on the model (and we're talking about a Class 8 tractor being mixed up for what's usually a Class 7 chassis), I'd be very concerned, to say the least. Especially since one substantial difference between a 2003 anything and a 2014 T680 is that a 2014 T680 would be an EPA2010 compliant truck with the Holset aftertreatment system. -
They going off last six of VIN? Only so many numbers so chasis numbers get used over.

You need to get on these guys and straighten them out. It's YOUR money and YOUR truck. -
Truck still in shop, been six weeks now. They are still having problems and I'm running out of cash. This year started out horribly. I'm now wondering if they put in wrong parts and what the heck they are really doing. An overhaul should not take this long. Thank you all for your replies. Now waiting to hear back from the attorney.
