Career change in mind and a friend leaving the same place of work for the trucking industry led to the start of this extraction and start of a rebuild. A few weeks of searching led to this discovery. A one owner 1989 T800 in a very undescriptive Facebook ad. After calling and talking to the seller I to get as much detail as I could I made the 2 hour trip to take a closer look. The sellers were the son (Chad) and wife (Yvonne) of the original owner who had passed in 2016. The truck had been tied up with estate issues and after arriving I found out it hadn’t been registered for 20 years, and the truck had been in the exact same location for those 20 years. The wife was my initial contact outside of a phone call to the son. I gave the truck a good look over for an hour then went and talked with Yvonne for a little bit. We struck something of a deal, but told me I needed to deal with Chad because she trusted what he said and his decisions.

A ton of phone calls and talking with a few friends I decided to pull the trigger on this truck. 5 hours of messing around trying to get air in tires and the truck running proved futile. The truck wouldn’t run but the tires were good enough to drag out, and get to the flatbed. The best part of those terrible 5 hours was working shoulder to shoulder with Chad and hearing all the stories and memories of his dad and this truck. Turns out Chad, who is only a few years older than me, took his license test and drove this truck for a few years as well. He remembers when his dad, Francis, bought the truck and brought it home.

Work has progressed well so far. The 3406B came to life on its own tonight for the first time in 20 some years without the use of ether. The truck is in very good shape considering the age. But, with only 400,388 miles that’s somewhat to be expected. She’ll be gutted, painted, loved and get tons of attention in the next few weeks. Hopefully this old girl will be on the road by thanksgiving time.

That’s awesome, that’s the only way to buy a truck in my opinion.

Slow process tearing it down but it’s getting there. I’m just trying to get it all ready to go to paint then the fun part starts. All new bags for the suspension, brakes, lights, interior, etc. That list goes in for days. It’s tiring but it’ll be worth it.
