I thought BP just bought TA/Petro within the last year or two?

Look up the history on Truckstops of America which was founded in 1972. It was then purchased by Ryder, Standard Oil in 1984, BP then bought Standard Oil making them the owner. BP sold to Clipper Group in 1993 and merged with National Auto/Truckstops in 1997 thus becoming Travel Centers of America.

After Pure Oil was purchased by Union Oil in 1965 they became Union 76 and after the merger in 1997 Union 76 name was gone.
TA purchased Burns Bros., Travel Ports of America and Petro Stopping Centers.

In 2006 they were purchased by Hospitality Properties Trust who remains their owners today I believe. They even had 1 truck stop in Woodstock, Ontario Canada but closed it in 2022.

Therefore BP owned TA briefly in 1984 to 1993 and again as of now.

    Numb and JC1971 Thank this.

Just for thought Truckstops of America was started in 1972 by Phillip Saunders with 13 truck stops along the East Coast from NY to Georgia who sold it to Ryder. He also founded Travel Ports of America later and also sold them to TA. I believe he is still owner of Sugar Creek travel stores in the New York state area.

Nobody's always right. It is no big deal either. Forget about it, we are all on the same side here.
Most here love success stories, big and small. We cheer each other on and hope for the best. There are a few really funny mistakes that are brought up once in a while , and we all laugh, because it is all in good spirit.
I have had to own up to putting my foot in my mouth, more than once and I don't have many messages.
There are many good reasons this site is a top site. One of my favorites is there are so many well meaning people here , the few trolls and other ill intentioned people stick out like sore thumbs. That is not you. (even if you are kinda bossy) :p;) playing with you.

No problem and no hard feelings taken on my end. If I came on too hard I apologize.

    D.Tibbitt and The_vett Thank this.
