i was looking for my aunt. becuase a tablet with gps makes more sense then a tablet AND gps.

i don't understand why people buy ALL THOSE DEVICES. when there's ONE device that does it all. like the need for an ipod or ipad or iphone. or mp3 player or whatever.

my phone does everything an ipad iphone and ipod can do. oh wait. it can't also be a nook or a barnes and noble also.

    Two reasons come to mind:

    1. The GPS chip in your phone was not designed for navigation in mind. Its purpose is to give 911 your location a bit more precisely than "on Highway 1, about ten miles or so outside of town". It works well enough under good conditions, but it has a tendency to get confused during poor GPS conditions. Like driving through the downtown area of a city, where you're most likely to need a GPS.

    2. When the phone rings, it dumps you out of your navigation program...

    Ms Jamie,
I agree and believe phones are meant to be phones, even smart phones. Although they have other features they are phones.

I know there is at least one good tablet for trucks that is designed to be used with the GPS mapping,
and is made with the proper GPS for the job.

I'm new to Canada and am using the Nexus tablet from google and installed co-pilot truck from the google playstore. So far it has performed great, even better than my old garmin nuvi. It can be customised for weight/speed etc. It even shows grid roafs. The truck app costs about 150 bucks but the version for 4 wheelers is less than 10 bucks if your just using it as a back up navigational device.

The problem with relying on wifi dependent apps is that Wifi is not always available. It is much safer to go with a tablet that has maps built in that does not require wifi for mapping.
