I assume they require it at all locations. Hazmat, tanker, and doubles/triples for line haul.
-
Yes, it is company policy. Only new to driving student drivers are allowed non hazmat and that is until they get theirs.

I went and pestered the BMV again this morning, and glory be my background check came back. I renewed my license to add the endorsements so now I can go update my application tomorrow.
I have a question hopefully someone can give me an answer to. I assume the road test comes before a job offer. I run at night, so I take care of things like this after I get back in the mornings. How would taking a road test affect my HOS? Am I required to log it? It might make for an awkward conversation if I request some time off so that I've got a fresh set of hours.
One more question. If I get a job offer I'd like to give my current employer 2 weeks notice. This company has always treated me well and I've always worked hard to give them my best effort. I'd like to leave them in good standing and not just drop off my equipment with a "See Y'all later!" They won't hold me to the two weeks, but they might like a couple of days to bring a driver coming off light duty up to speed. Would OD be willing to accommodate this within reason? -
Updated application and submitted it for review on Friday. Now I'm just keeping the phone close and trying not to get too excited.

I want to apply to OD as a new driver of class A, have a class B for 30 years. I am just waiting for my HAZMAT back ground check to get to the DMV before I go do the test and have it added to my class A. I have all the other endorsements ready to be added to the class A after the HAZMAT so I don't give the DMV more money to get the license re-done.
Thanks

I have. I interviewed Monday, which I think went well although I'm still in the application phase. I'm paperchasing right now to cross every t and dot the i's. I'm learning it's not an all at once process. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I guess, and I'm certainly willing to go along with it. I've spent almost two years talking to drivers from every company imaginable in every niche of the industry to try and find the best long term fit for me, and this is what I want. I don't have the job yet, but it's looking good so far.
There's more info here, too: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...7680-old-dominion-freight-line-top-notch.html
Good luck to you. Just FYI, it took about 12 business days for the BMV to get my background check for Hazmat but I wouldn't have known if I hadn't called them. The approval notification didn't come in the mail until 2 weeks after I confirmed it with the BMV and already added the endorsement to my license. -
I never worked there, but have a couple good friends that have been there for years running the Northern routes. Great place from what I hear, good luck!

I hate the BMV. No, I HATE them. I need a certified copy of my MVR, so I called the customer assistance number to find out where and how to obtain it. The helpful lady that answered told me in a cheery voice that I could get that at any license branch. I head over to my local branch, get my number, and wait 40 minutes only to be told that they don't do that. I have to request it online or mail in a request form (provided free of charge). I call customer assistance again, and someone that sounds exactly like the lady I talked to the first time said no, online or mail it in.
Serves me right for thinking that an inefficient, bloated government agency would know its own rules and regulations. -
Hang in there, and I'm looking forward to hearing that you got the job with OD! Are you applying for P&D or linehaul?
