You just said you expect to be paid extra to do inspections, since you consider that to be outside the job of being paid by the mile. Which is it?

"Report required. Every motor carrier shall require its drivers to report, and every driver shall prepare a report in writing at the completion of each day's work on each vehicle operated,"

What part is a problem for you?

I did my inspection by the hour then drove 1300 miles by the mile.
Or the mechanic who I trust did it and i did a quick walk around signed off and drove.
A good maintenance program goes a long way.

You were paid that, because that was the agreement the trucking company had with you, with the shipper, etc.. And today, if a shipper is willing to agree to those terms, more power to the trucking company and the driver, if they shipper refuses, well, then either the trucking company refuses to haul the loads, raises their rates to offset those expenses to compensate the driver, or they tell the driver that all off-duty/sleeper hours are unpaid, at that point it's up to the driver to decide.

Congratulations, the company paid you extra, sounds like a gold mine for you, why did you leave?

Where do your trucks fuel? If you use loves truckstops. Then at least once a week REQUIRE the drivers to use the tire pass fuel lane. If your a large company (i suspect not) Then you can make an agreement B2B with loves corporate. To have them do a walk around while the tires are being checked. If your not latge enough to do that. Make it a company requirement, for the driver to inspect and fill out an inspection sheet. That must be turned in weekly, matching the loves report.
Then it as easy as in addition to turning in bills to be paid. The weekly loves report and company inspection sheet. Must also be turned in same time.
Really guys are making a bugher deal out of this than necessary. While you are fueling loves will check your tires. The driver turns all lights and 4 ways on. Walks around truck just looking.
NO BIG DEAL, MOST OF THE DRIVERS COULD USE THE EXERCISE ANYWAY!

I wouldn’t answer the phone either if I knew you were calling for that reason.
