6.5 hrs to go on my reset . I'm itching to drive just to get out of here. Doing nothing is a big hole you throw money into.

I hate doing 34 hour resets unless I'm spending time with family. It's just wasted time to spend money at a truckstop.

Except there are no decent stops around here. I've been in a Walmart parking lot for a while. No overnight parking, but I hope to be gone by the time that rolls around.

That's the worst. I did that one night in a Chicago suburb (and overnight parking was allowed) but the next day, I awoke to find my truck surrounded by cars and I was unable to move. My stay turned into a very long stay while the parking lot emptied late the next night. I haven't parked in a Walmart parking lot since then. And won't.

Usually trucks are welcome at Walmart but when you get into a city or college town, they get more strict. I used to like them because they were open 24hrs for food or bathroom, camera is watching for your security, and they pretty much were lizard free.

Made it to salt lake. I have to time this run just right so I can not only deliver on time, but also get my next load. If I ran my hours to nothing, I'm afraid I would have got too late of a start tomorrow, resulting in a late delivery or, if I ran all the way, I'd been out of hrs for my back haul.
In the end, I needed an excuse to get a room to get good rest before I cut off the majority of the run.

Because I have not driven west in this truck, I had no need for using my engine brake. Now that I'm here, I realize I need one.

Before entering California we are required to wash our truck and trailer to help avoid the eyes of DOT. Company's dime.
