It's always been WORSE!!!!....but now there's Twitter, Facebook, Internet and 24 hour news cycle. We live in THE SAFEST times in the history of humanity. Ponder that, as you think things are, somehow getting worse.

Think about it, just 140 or so years ago, you could OWN another human being IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!

THINK about it!!!, just 250 years ago, you could go to your queen (the British or, on my case, the Spanish) and get a piece Of paperwork that allowed you to LEGALLY attack, steal, destroy, rape and plunder any ship at sea NOT of your own flag!!!!!!!

350 years ago.....forget it, you could expect your feudal lord to come into your house (let's not even talk about the difference in what you'd need to do to feed your family), rape your wife or daughters and/or kill you....all of it sanctioned by God....

And this was England and Europe!!!!!

As far as today.....how safe do you think Eritrean, Moldovan, Palestinian or....Mexican, families feel, compared to you and your family...

I know someone who lives in Mexico City....(largest city in the America's)...she's a marketing executive for GM....One of her co-workers went with his wife to eat at a rather famous, well known spot....Some Narcos saw his wife, liked her, took her....never been seen again. Left a husband, and son....this was 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love where I live and feel blessed to be born where I was, and grew up far from an urban environment.
Curfew was at 1030 and the whole town knew it.
Small town with a handful of police that everyone knew by name.
Vandalism and shoplifting were the most extreme crimes that went on.

    That town grew up .

Every day the news seems to get increasingly worse. It was only a month ago since the Pulse nightclub shooting, feels like a year, because now the Nice, France thing is the headline, and a military coup in turkey.
I'll take a famous couple cheating scandal any time over this.
It's only a matter of time before it comes to our shores again.

Comparisons notwithstanding, this is a very dangerous world in which we live. What we are witnessing is the rapid, painful unraveling of long-held norms.

Where we go from here...well, that's the question, isn't it?

Finally convinced dispatch that backhaul loads do not have to be straight to. Mi.
I'm getting a run to New Jersey, not too far from the PA water plant I go for MI runs. I think I'm finally getting through to them!

My experience is many dispatchers, especially new ones, have an undeveloped sense of geography. That don't know what's near what or how to get from here to there. With time and patience, they learn. Not all of them. Not all the time.

I had a dispatcher preplan me on a run to Miama, Oklahoma, when I was headed to Lawton, Oklahoma, for some hometime with my daughter and grandchildren.

When I asked how this is possible, she (the dispatcher) said, well Oklahoma's pretty small so they must be close. I had to explain that Miami, Oklahoma is about 30 miles from the state line with MISSOURI in the northeast and Lawton is about 30 miles from the state line with TEXAS in the southwest. And they are separated by a very long Interstate 44 highway.

Slap. My. Head. She didn't last long.

    popcorn169 and Wickedfire77 Thank this.
