He must have been a pilot in a previous life. Keeping the nose on the centerline is a good thing! 😎

You should read all you can about leasing in general. You will hear many bad things by people who want to change your mind to their way of thinking. You need to evaluate your business skills because leasing is a business venture, not a truck driving venture. Go read informative posts on the Owner/Operator forums on TTR; even though leasing isn't the same as owning, there are similarities.

And be ready for scorn. Plenty of scorn. But if you want to do it, understand the risks, and are prepared for the challenge, go for it. You might fail. You might succeed. But you're an adult and the decision is yours.

If you owned your own in 2005 to 2008, and have 17 yrs of trucking exp. I would say you have a better shot at passing, than failing. But, numbers are the most important thing in owning a trucking business, any business in fact. I treat my L/P just like I was buying the truck from a bank, no different. I know all my numbers and even though I run 100% brokered freight, I am in the black every month. I have only had one week, last week, that I was in the red, for that week. I know more people fail because they run their L/P as a trucking adventure and all they see is the freedom they gained. They need to look at it as a small business and not take advantage of that freedom, and not spend every dime on chicken lights or things that don't make money. Ok, I am done..lol

yeah i assume your right . some people will fail and some will succeed. ive been trucking off and on for a long time now ... started out when i was 18 pulling a drop deck. did that for about 7 yrs then bought my own and leased to hillsboro transport Didnt like it too much then but of course that was when the economy took a dive into the dumpster. . Everything i was making went back into the truck . So i was lucky to pocket 1000.00 after it was said and done. And like i said i sold it. Then i ran a construction crew for another 4 yrs and now i know what i want to do from here on out. Yeah i could take my savings and put 20 percent down on a 2010 kenworth ive been looking at and lease to whoever i was thinking of mercer maybe or RTI. So the last few days ive been checking into lease purchase. I just dont know who to go to. Any advice on who to call on a LP?

Based on your good experience, I would consider Schneider's Choice program. You have no dispatchers but choose your own loads from their load board. You pick when and where you go, buy fuel, and everything else. Good luck to you, whatever you choose. My guess is you will succeed.

Yeah, the company I am buying my truck from...lol Here is an example of my L/P: I asked the owner if he minded, if I put an Oil bypass system on the truck....he said; "no, I don't mind at all"... Name a L/P company that will do that.
