Oh yeah I totally understand that. We have 4 kids and the baby is 25 and we got out of Kommiefornia as soon as we could. We are close enough now to sneak in and see them and the grandkids for a few days before Browns Gestapo finds out we are there and taxes our feet for walking around his state....

Unless it's on a land contract /rent to own deal it can be hard to unload a house "for profit" so to speak .
Id love to live closer to GR though....

I don't need "for profit." I only need to sell it and come out owing nothing, but the house is valued about $25,000 less than recent nearby comps.

That sucks. On the bright side, there seems to be a recovery, and you should be able to sell in another 7-10 years owing nothing .

My my dad is in the same boat. Owing more than it is now valued at.
Hopefully things get better before they get stagnant again

My wife, grandchild, dog and belongings are 35 miles north of GR. I used to work for a a place in GR on Market St, when I started. After about 8 months, we moved to Industrial Park Dr in Grandville,,,,Hascall Steel. I wouldn't live anywhere near GR, I want to live in the woods but, MI is a Socialistic State and they have Townships all over, that tell you what size house you have to have, how big the front yard has to be, what type of fence, how many cats/dogs, and on and on and on... You have to buy a permit for everything you build! Ridiculous! Not even sure I will actually move back there. Looking at 10 acre's north of White Cloud, in the Manistee National Forrest but, got to check the township rules first...

Not to mention vacant acreage up north costs the same in taxes as a house in the burbs. I could get 80ac in the Missouri Ozarks, and pay around 100 bux in taxes a year.

After I moved here and bought this house in 2007, I learned quickly about hidden rules that even real estate agents don't know when I unloaded my Lance camper onto the cement in my driveway in front of my house.

A $150 fine taught me that it's illegal to park a "recreational vehicle not on wheels" anywhere in front of the extended imaginary line of the front of your house for more than 24 hours because it is "unsightly."

So my Lance camper sits on the grass on the side of my house, just as ugly, and digging a deep hole in the ground.
