There are many benefits to joining OOIDA. You'll save money if you get Prepass, use the Member's Edge load board and more. They seem to keep an eye out for the benefit of us owner operators. There's plenty here that will say they don't do much at all, but I'm glad I joined.

    PM sent.

I remember doing all that online. I don't remember which one, but when you get your numbers (MC or DOT), your phone will begin ringing off the hook from folks trying to sell you other services. You get the numbers right away but have to wait out the waiting period and do the BOC-3 thing (check OOIDA) and insurance thing in the meantime.

Thanks...yeah, my wife went through that with her mother exactly 4 years ago. She's a little better prepared for the emotional toll but it's still going to be a rough road.

I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and lease on to someone else and try to just get a loan on the truck & trailer (or just the truck in some cases). Some companies I'm considering:

    Panther Expedited
    Manning Transfer Inc. (Minneapolis)
    National Trucker Services (Fayetteville, AR)

does anyone have any information on these companies as far as their lease programs? I was also looking at Tango but they require a 2004 or newer truck and I'm pretty dead set on this '98 Freightliner. :biggrin_25515:

I've heard of (and seen) Panther but not the other two.

My wife's a breast cancer survivor of 2.5 years so far. Everything's clean and green. Keep the faith brother.

Glad to hear your wife is doing well gears!!. My mom is stage 3 right now, been on chemo for about 3 months now, doing well so far and hope everything turns out good. Still in the process of obtaining my authority, the wait is driving me nuts, just wanna get out there and get this new business off the ground already lol. :biggrin_255:

Well, my wife's father died unexpectedly on Tuesday so things have changed. I won't be able to go forward with trying to get my own authority and start my own business, but I found a job with a small family owned outfit that starts me on Tuesday. I figure I'll save up the money and maybe in a year or two I'll be able to go pay cash for the truck I want.

The dream isn't dead, just delayed...and the banks won't be making any interest off of me. ;)
