Don't miss dealing with that mega carrier BS one bit. I couldn't wait to get me one year of experience and I was gone, oh how time has flown by.
Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
I stayed out 4 months and went back whenever I felt like it.
A trick I liked to use to get paid time off is to put it into the local dealer.
.....then go home.
Saves my days off and I get paid to sit at home.
Trust me a dealer will find something....
And Mr Jackson can provide an assist to the guy doing the booking.
Hmmm.... 10 days later....oh look I made $700 xDBostonTanker and John Dewart Thank this. -

When u hire on to one of those kind of jobs, tell them u live on the other side of the country. That way you'll always be by the house.
Cali kid, street beater and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
You know the situation is strategic. If you are stuck in the truck away from home you cannot apply to and interview for other jobs. You have to wonder how long anyone would stay at a mega if most the time they were stuck in a truck, away from home, across the country.

When I got sick of Swift I was still on the road. I decided to look into other companies and do a few online applications. Crete was the next company I intended to work for. I put an application in online in less than 5 minutes a recruiter called me... I was in orientation in Wilmer TX 3 weeks later (while I was on "hometime" with Swift). I quit Swift as soon as I finished Crete's orientation, told them I'd be back to turn in the truck in a few days. Crete assigned me a truck that was ready to go at the dealer maybe 2 miles from where my Swift truck was in Fontana. Moral of the story: if you don't like how your current employer treats you you can always quit. That and if you have some experience and don't have a ####ty driving record it should be ZERO problem to find a new OTR gig.
