Sounds like you hit those ground waves just right! I've done it several times on my base station by talking 200 miles or so. I like doing that better than talking skip. What radio were you running when you talked that far?

I believe if the base antenna is high enough, then yes you can talk for a ways. I know once I was able to talk clear as day for 16 miles non skip on a Wilson Lil Wil and a stock 4 watt Uniden PC 66 CB on ch 19 to a CB shop on the border of Indiana/Illinois. I later found out he had a nice tall tower that allowed the antenna to see over everything.

I had a three pill in my pickup truck and talked
35 miles to another mobile in the middle of the night.

I have talked to many of our drivers out past 10 miles and they all run Cobra 29s and unidens and a couple run galaxy 959s and 949s.

But there are a couple that can't get out past two miles and they can't hear past 2 miles either. I have checked their systems out and found bad coax, bad antennas etc.

Galaxy DX44V...a really old one.Around 40 watts. Wilson 2000 antenna.
It is getting ready to be my backup radio.
All my parts are coming in for the new install.....:biggrin_25525:

New Galaxy DX94HP Tuned by Bells CB
    New coax,new mount.
8 gauge power wires direct to battery.
Braided ground straps for the door, mirror, and vehicle chassis.
And maybe a Predator 10K antenna.
Might as well do it right....lol!

I have a Predator 10k and highly recommend it.
I remember when browning copied the 10k and
the reviews were not that good from what i read.

Thanks, Bells recommended the Browning, said it performed just as well but i'm this far in it so will probably get the Predator.
I may run my Wilson a couple weeks at first to see how it does.It is new so i should give it a chance.
If not it will be another spare......getting a bunch of those...lol!

The Predator's have a lifetime warranty against "anything" that may happen to the antenna regardless of who's fault it is....Browning, Wilson, Firestick, Tram, and just about all other manufacturers don't!

I've been running nothing but Predator 10K's on all my vehicles for over 10 years mainly because I like to be able to talk to whoever I can hear...
