How do you find out which utility owns the lines in your way? Is it just a crap shoot, calling the most likely, and letting them correct you? I know some are marked, but... I thought that was pretty rare.

    And...

The utilities and DOT charge for moving wires, lights, etc.. right? I mean, for them to move things for a 19' tall load, can't hardly consider it a public service!?

    PeteyFixAll and MJ1657 Thank this.

No they charge by the hour or day
You have to make a bunch of calls, first to find out who owns the power lines for said town, county. Then cable tv compaines, phone service etc.
Then trying to get them to all be on the same page for dates...

I've never tried it but I wonder if you could dail 811. I don't know if that works in other places but that's the number in TN you dial if you are digging to locate underground wires. I bet they would at least know what utility was in a specific area.

We've had to have wires and such moved before. Stuff like that is why I like to stay local or short on our super loads. I know the area or can find out real quick what is needed.

Farthest I've ever moved a super load is from Memphis to Nashville but even it was only 15.5' high and required nothing but a high pole.

    PeteyFixAll and CharlieK Thank this.

Barge down the Cumberland or Tennessee to the Ohio then Mississippi to Nawlins. Of course I have no clue about bridge clearances on that route but they do have drawbridges along the route. Then probably transferred to something else for the rest of the trip.

Bankrupt is when you owe more than you have assets to cover aka you can't repay your debt.
Nice to see you are so worldly...
Welcome to America: we owe more than we can ever repay if the government stopped spending money right now.

Well, we are already $20,000,000,000,000 in the red, (a debt that will never be paid, not to mention the unfunded liabilities). But I like to think outside the box. Eisenhower's interstate hwy system was great for our country but he should have expanded on it. We need some big national projects that benefit everyone. A trans. corridor or some variation of it could fit the bill. For thoughts, Panama canal, CA Aquaduct, Hoover Dam and all the others, And how about a HUGE canal from the upper Mississippi to the southwest? Every year flooding of that river costs billions. OK, rant over.......................

    Projects like that are done.
    They will never happen again...

Unless we can find a way to get rid of, or talk some sense into all the treehuggers...
