The dump valve is on the trailer itself right. Just a rookie question.

Yes. Some owners and companies add an electronic control which allows it to be actuated from inside the cab, but it's usually a simple mechanical valve on the trailer itself.

I know with my company there is a switch in the cab, but half the time it doesn't work cause people mess with stuff.

If it's off by a certain amount though, you can get a ticket due to equipment "malfunction." I believe they're supposed to be within 1200 pounds or some crap. They're made to be split evenly, or close to. The bad part about spreads also is that when loaded, those tires and such get tore up when you have to take a lot of turns. I hate seeing those front tires drag. That's why a dump valve really helps.

I have a switch on my dash that i use to lift my front axle. There is a dump valve on the frame of my trailer, next to the tailgate release, but i only dump the air when i am dumping my load. I have been around spread axles that automatically lift(front axle obviously) when there is not a load.

the set ups are quite variable.

perhaps the issue is in the plug that inserts into the trailer.they can act up not at all unlike the pig tail.

30 miles from our yard is the port. we had a driver get put out of service becuase the back axle was lighter then the front.
dude never even noticed the back axle sitting lower then the front.
that was when i first came back out on the road.
