Tandem axle release tool?

    The air release has to have been aired up to pressurize the pin release, and must have the red knob pulled after the release has been pressurized, as soon as the supply (red knob) has been pushed in, the release is deactivated if it is working right, so the pins can't be released driving down the road, having the supply pressurized makes it almost impossible to pull the release and it won't stay pulled if you let go of it.

    I always pull the red knob, and leave the parking brake unset when sliding an air pin pull trailer to set the tandems. If the knob on the trailer is sticky, the mechanism isn't working right.

    Less walking back to check and release things using the air release over the manual, but there are occasions where it is nice to have the manual. We have some of each, even a few of the used Marten trailers have air pins on them, though most have the handle.

    Like GA said, a pair of visegrips is your best. I dont remember the details, but i have used a couple of rubber bungee cords wrapped around handle and hooked to side of trailer. A cobby way of doing it, but only had to do it a couple of times. It kept enough tension on handle as i rocked trailer to release pins.

    at a 120 dollars direct plus shipping , I have a question. Does this act as a handle "stay" ? Meaning does it hold the handle out and keep it from popping back in? Thereby allowing for rocking to free jammed pins?

    For stuck/twisted pins, try this...

    Roll forward about 5-9 mph. Pull down on the trolley handle (Johnny bar, spring loaded trailer brake) and let the vehicle stop and settle. Most times it will rock and center the pins. It's an art form, but once mastered, it works.

    No trolley handle? Get a BFH.
