Y'all don't get the same discounts? Nothing personal against you, but I'm glad to hear that, as it does show loyalty to those of us that make a commitment to sign a long term contract.

Ya I know what your saying, Now that I'm doing all the numbers I ended up only saving $931 buying over 22,000 gallons of fuel. Some places we only get cash price looks like I get a better price at loves because there fuel is cheaper from the start

There's tons to consider here, especially where you run. Up here (western Canada) nobody runs fixed spreads because you can only have 9100 kgs on them (20,000 lbs) total. So if you want to take advantage of 40k down south you need a slider system. But you still cannot have more than 17,000 kgs (37,485 lbs) on the axles closed, so you can't really go to 40k anyways. Remember us Canadians cannot touch domestic US freight, it needs to come into or out of Canada. So we always have equipment that can comply to both rules.

That being said a front slider 48 foot step/flat is becoming more common. Maximum "legal" spread in western Canada is 72", so it cannot be more than that closed.

The odd thing is you can have a triaxle trailer with 10 foot spacing total and it's legal up here. 24,000 kgs minimum most jurisdictions. But if you take that middle axle out you're down to 9,100 kgs.

We run a lot of steps because we tend to haul machinery north. Very few flats up here.

If you go more than 48 feet (51 footers are very common) you'd want a rear slide. That way you can load machinery without destroying your trailer with the axle slid back. I also know of many guys running 51 foot steps with triaxles, and the rear axle right by the bumper.

You also have wheelbase rules, and trailer overhang (35% of trailer wheelbase) rules. 244" is the max legal, but you can get permits. I think you can permit up to 285" but you still cannot be over maximum legal length (75' 6" or so). You also need a shorter wheelbase on the trailer.

It's a complicated mess, that's why most western Canadians run 48 foot flats with a closed tandem. Don't have to worry about over length, wrecking your trailer loading equipment, etc.. even though you don't take advantage of spread axle weights.
