Of course she did! You don't have them holding back tandems that weigh close to 35,000 lbs without them whining. "Why aren't you doing this, and I'll try to slide it". I told that chick, "you'll do it and like it!" The chick shut up after that.

Tell em if they don't like it they can stick their finger in the correct hole to stop you from sliding too far.

Probably whine about that too though.

Your parking brake springs are probably broke.

    Here’s the temporary solution:

1)Pull release pin button to retract pins
    2) Wedge a screwdriver or something similar to keep the release button out.
    3) Push emergency valve back in
    4) Verify pins are still retracted
    5) Pull ahead (or back up)slowly and pull down on trolley lever

Doing this you can apply maximum braking power to keep the wheels from turning.
You can sometimes do this without using the rolling start.

You can use all the braking power you want.

If the slack adjusters aren't working. And the brakes are out of adjustment. The brakes aren't going to hold.

If you set the brakes and the axles don't hold. The brakes are out of adjustment. YOu can confirm that by using your eyeballs and looking at the brakes. WITH THE BRAKES RELEASED. You'll see gaps between the shoes and drums. Properly adjusted brakes won't have gaps. They'll be hugging the drums.

And backing up and locking up the brakes don't work. If the adjusters were working during that trick. They'd be working in normal use. Since they don't work during normal use. They won't work in reverse either.

I have a feeling the spring brakes are very good at putting down big pressure.

What I do with all parking brakes set and tractor chocked is get under each wheel drum with a ball peen hammer. thud thud thud that's fine. Thud thud thud. So is this one.

DING! NOPE. this brake is bad. Out of adjustment.

Whenever I use to get a trailer with the slack adjusters that far worn out, I used a 4 X 4 and would put it between the tandems to block the tires from moving as I slid them up. You see this kind of thing a lot with companies who don't keep up on preventative maintenance.. Stuff falls apart.

Some of you guys just don’t understand.
The brakes can be adjusted correctly, but if the parking brake springs are busted, the wheels are going to move when trying to slide the tandems.

The easiest way, in an emergency situation, is to use the method I described earlier.

And then figure out which brake chambers have the broken springs.

And using a ball peen hammer to check brake adjustments? Really?

After 42 years in the business I thought I had heard it all.
