I'm happy with them. I'm actually amazed by my bank statements on Friday mornings. I haven't been this happy with an employer for some time. Yes, insurance sucks and 401k ain't worth two ####'s because they don't match it right now but they are looking to change that. Other than that, this is the place to be. Not a single one of the 3 companies I have worked for in the past have I brought home over $600 a week but here I bank in right at $1,000 a week give or take off days. Then again, I'm local. Not sure how it is for you OTR/Reg. guy's but I have't heard anyone complain yet except a couple which was something that was wrong on their part.

I SAID they seemed like a good company but their insuance was CRAP! :biggrin_25521:

And ya, if they were worth a crap they'd wouldn't make their employees wait a year to get major medical insurance! That's part of it buddy. You might like throwing huge chunks of your check away for privately bought insurance, but we don't. That is part of taking care of your employees. I am glad that they are good to work with and give you miles but that's only part of it and for us it was a deal breaker!
I've worked in upper management, even working very closely with company owners. They consider insurance to be part of taking care of the people that basically are giving them their soul all week while their families are home making do without you.
These fun folks got the bare minimum so they can say, "We offer insurance!", and then put all kinds of strings on it. :biggrin_25513:
The recruiter didn't know jack about it and we had to be transfered to an HR person and that's when it all came out and we graciously said NO THANK YOU!

When he spoke with the recruiter they conveyed what he'd be averaging per week. Minus their CRAPPY insurance he'd be bringing home fast food pay. Probably less than that. Private insurance, would be just as expensive or more for a family of 4. Maybe you live in an area where they pay you better, or you don't need the money, but not here.:biggrin_2556:
I am sorry that we had to pass up on a good company, otherwise, but it obviously wasn't good enough if that's what they had to offer. Like I said, it's part of the deal of taking care of the people who are giving you their soul for a week or two at a time, while their families at home.
Putting their families in a huge financial bind with your lowsy insurance with all kinds of strings attached, is not it.
Being honest shouldn't be a benefit. It should be expected. Of course, I know, this industry is run by lying blood suckers. We've been burned by one that took over the account my husband used to work for. Lying, greedy, blood sucking scum bags.

But how are they being so great when you need to get medical care for your child with an ongoing medical condition and because they made you wait a YEAR to get it, he is now being denied that care over a "pre-existing condition", and you're now are stuck like chuck trying to pay for it and now can't feed your family. That's after spending that year on their lowsy "limited medical" plan. How is that being a great company? We're still broke and he's gone on the road. That sux!

But, hey, they're honest and nice people! :biggrin_25526:

They are free, for now to offer crap, we are free to consider that crap, and to say no to that crap. You are free to like that crap. We are free to find someone that offers something better. :biggrin_255:

    No you said:

It's not that much, I carry a $5k deductible and pay out of pocket for minor things. That is part of taking care of yourself and not expecting companies and the goverment to take care of me and my family....but thanks for your concern.

I don't care who you HAVE worked for or in what capacity, alot of companies have done away with insurance and or just offer SUPPLEMENTAL Insurance now a days.
:biggrin_25526:Please stop with the "giving them their soul all week while their families are home making do without you" it's trucking find something local or get out of trucking all together....it's not like it's some kind of new thing:biggrin_25526:

So it's a problem that the recruiter didn't know the answer BUT they made sure you DID get an answer..and a correct one at that??:biggrin_2554:

It does suck having a pre-existing condition but maybe he would be better off working a full time and part time job and not driving. Maybe YOU AND HIM are to blame for "having a family of 4" and not being able to afford it. Companies have realized that it was one of their highest costs and just started offering SUPPLEMENTAL iNSURANCE (definition:Something added to complete a thing, make up for a deficiency, or extend or strengthen the whole.) and by golly actually think people will BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN NEEDS!!

Hmmmm...has been my experiance that if you want higher income (Upper management excluded, of course) the "bennies" of a company will be lower.
Case in point: My wife works for the state of Texas. The bennies can not even be compared to what a top 500 fortune company average employee can get. The pay scale, on the other hand, doesn't even get close to what an entry level employee of the 500 fortune company would get.
Unless, of course, you are in the "upper" management of a company upon which you will get the "best" pay and bennies. Just as the guys and gals of the many institutions that our tax paying citizens have bailed out.

OK, an update. It's early and I've been trying to put in all the hours I can. Been having some issue's but the main one being speeder's. The Shreveport Times newspaper delievery crew shows up around 3am to load up and do their run's which is right across the street from our office/warehouse. One of our driver's was hit by one of the speeder's a few week's before I started working there and is still currently in the hospital but will be returning for work soon. A few night's ago not once but twice I was almost hit by these speeders. One lady didn't even bother to hit touch the brakes. Complaints have been made to adress such safety issue once more.

Risinger Bros. Had one of their truck's come in this evening and I guess the guy got pissed about the scale or something. He wasn't going near as fast as those people do but still to fast for our lot and making a U turn in the lot aross the street umongest a parked straight truck, a fire hydrant and telephone poles on our side. I was writting up an OOS on a trailer and swaping a trailer from another truck to mine when I saw such manuver take place. Had someone stepped out from the other direction of the U-turn he would have run right over them or because of the limited visability could have taken out the phone pole that he got fairily close to with the nose of his truck.

I opened my truck door and stood on the step to flag him down coming back by to the scale and polightly told him he needed to slow it down. Not quite sure what he said but it could have been a number of thing's and in the mannor acted out after I could only take it as a #### you or go to hell comment. I have spoken with my supervisor about such act's and it is currently unclear what will be done to take action.

I personally however will start taking truck numbers and reporting such acts of endangerment to those of us who have to work out there in that area. OTR driver's really haven't been an issue but this guy was the first I seen. As for the news paper thowers across the street, well, if it continues I will call the local law enforcment sit in the area to start issuing tickets for speeding or careless operation of a motor vehical because they drive like the world has has completely mad and we don't need another person getting plowed into.

All in all, work has been going great. Been having some issue's with truck's breaking down but #### happens. Talked with my supervisor sense they are hiring more drivers and told him for anyone who doesn't come in I'll gladly fill in to get the hours sense we will be getting our hours cut. That's something he seemed to like to hear and so far I have been first call on the list for a fill in on my off day's when someone is sick or what not.

They were putting new (that was where I was housed 7 years ago) orientation folks in a hotel located in Minden, LA. Then they would drive you in a van to main office in Shreveport, LA which takes about 20-30 minutes. Think they are going to start orientation in the old USA terminal on I20 (or so I was told) pretty soon.

Is there a hotel near there or is it a bunkhouse type setup? I'm thinking about renting a car to drive up there but the only place I can find to drop it off is the Shreveport airport. I'm just trying to plan a ride from there to the hotel or terminal.

I forget the name of it but yea there is a hotel right around the corner from the main office that they put you in. As they say if you can't walk that short little distance from the hotel to the office then you shouldn't be driving a truck. You get breakfast tickets to the waffle house. Someone screwed up and got Tango banned from the IHOP.

Everything seem's to be chilling out at the Slack yard. I guess something was said but however I did report a Risinger truck that I was almost hit by Friday night around 1:00am. Parked behind another truck to go take a break, I started to climb down out of my truck with a red volvo (risinger) come tearing ### by my truck and the one in front of me gunning the hell out of the motor leaving our lot with nothing more than his parking lights on. I reported it to safety and we didn't get a truck number but we have 3 BOL's and one of them belongs to that driver so they will match the number to the make and model of the truck and time the incedent occured. Next person I will have a chat to about this issue of endangerment to employees will be with Mr. Ivan himself and I will see to it Risinger and their drivers are well informed of this serious issue.
