Even with my baffled tank I still get surge and I have been perfecting the art of going over rolling scales at 79k and not getting Red light due to sloshing in the tank lol!

Unless they wrote you up before. Then you race in and slam on the brakes.

I found a small change to my driving style helps with surge. I used to shift with the surge then accelerate, it would make the surge worse, so I wait till the surge reaches the back of the tank, then start accelerating. As the surge starts to move to the front, I then shift and wait till it reaches the rear again before I start accelerating. It's not perfect, but it certainly keeps the movement to a minimum and keeps the surge from slamming into the rear of the tank.

Thanks for that. I was trying all kinds of combinations of shifting and acceleration vis a vis the surge and never figured it out other than to take a lot of time accelerating smoothly. I will try your method if I have another opportunity to drive a tanker.

If I'm pulling chemicals, I get the product moving as much a possible. Scales get impatient waiting for the movement to stop.

That doesn't work in Virginia, they make you sit there and wait. I hate Virginia scales...

Every thing should be fine as long as you remember if your checking to see how empty your tank is don't use a cigarette lighter.

I have a 13 speed. I skip shift 2-4 then when I switch to high range, I only give about 3 seconds of throttle, then flip the second selector and accelerate to proper speed in that gear, then repeat the process as I work up the range. That first little goose puts the product in motion, but by the time It gets to the back of the tank, you've just let off the accelerator and it barely give a lil' nudge, then it moves forward as you shift into the second range and accelerate and it cancels the motion.
    Doesn't work on hills though.
I honestly have no idea how to shift going uphill and not have it yelling at me ,"WTH are you doing up there?!"
