My input on that is too many people think that if I get my cdl my first job I’m getting that 15,000$ signing bonus and I’m making 90k guaranteed. A lot of people don’t do the research and end up out the game within3 months after they’ve hopped 5 jobs. It’s important to make money. But I think it’s more important to learn the game(industry) and become a valuable asset. A lot of people mistake having a cdl for being a valuable asset. When they can’t make any appointment windows, cant communicate to dispatch. Don’t call customers in advance. It takes 5 mins to trip plan and call a customer and say hey I’ll be in the area around x time can you guys take early delivery. Refuse every load thats not 100% optimal. Can’t back the truck without taking 9 days and hitting everything. Let alone guys that still get out the truck and do a pre or post trip. Become an asset an the money comes to you
Should be finishing up my training by the end of the month and everyone has been nothing but helpful.
After training, what tupe of first year income can a new driver expect to earn, if he turns out to be professional and a good driver?
I know you want to go tanker, but why limit yourself to just those three companies. I did flatbed my first two years, and that was enough to get me a job offer from every local tanker outfit I applied to.
I drove for Schneider for a year (2018-19) if you are in the Midwest and go regional/ otr. I can say most weeks are 600-800$... if you go dedicated, and like to run, I can guarantee you’ll make 1000-1500 week... the hard part is getting on the account
Prime if you dont mind having a truck that keeps you below 55 maximum mph. Yet if your overweight? Schneider. They dont have a problem with how large your stomach is
How long do you plan to stay out?. You make a LOT more money staying out 3 months than you would the bare minimum 3 weeks. I did $67K my first year but I was only home about 40 days of that year and I drove like my life depended on it.
I can't recall the last time I encountered a Prime truck doing 55mph when the speed limit was higher. Pretty sure they got turned up a while ago.
58 mph on the pedal.......62 on cruise. They do pay a pretty respectable fuel bonus though. That is why some of the drivers keep it close to 55.
