Also: Do all tanker drivers have to be able to go into canada? (If a person with all endorsements and twic isn't able to go into canada, would that prevent him from hiring on at a tanker company)

Superpet, are you looking to be a tanker yanker locally, Regional, or OTR? If you have experience driving and want to be local, start applying to haul petroleum/gas...
superpet39 Thanks this. -
i wouldn't look at starting with Schneider bulk as such a terrible thing. I'm at 6 mos, and really liking it so far. Training for a newb with fresh CDL was 10 days, then with a road trainer for 5 days, then off on my own. Pay isnt terrible and the staff at my operating center are good people. Not sure what SNBC has available in your area though.
As for your Canada question, Schneider will just flag you as not being able to go to Canada. No loss, at least as far as my area goes (NE/midwest).
Terminology? Don't worry 'bout it, it's all simple and self explanatory. Most is company specific anyway and the hardest stuff to remember is more company related than tanker related.
I plan on staying for two years total until i meet the req's for my next gig.kiwi23, briarhopper and superpet39 Thank this. -
This thread was suppose to mimic the thread in the flatbed section about terminology (check it out its a nice thread!)....... but instead its just a bunch of great info that i was going to ask about in several different threads over the next few months anyway (so: GREAT for me and anyone else that needs it!)
My main reason for sounding so sour (in MOST of my post on the subject) is that im a local guy that is "spoiled" (for lack of a better word)..... I've never even been in a TS before, never even had to stop and get gas (old job had diesel pump on site) Few times i've been to socal, i just made sure i had 300 gallons before i left and boogied lol.
For a short period of time (Less than 6 months) I could afford to get the "low pay" of a prime/schneider... its the OTR part (proper trip planning,SHARING a rig with a stranger, stuff like that) im apprehensive about.....
But im taking all the advice i can on here and will be applying to every single place around here before I start searching for the "whats better: prime or schneider for best tanker training" threads. -
would prefer local, but if i was trained, i wouldn't have a problem regional which ever paid better (without me being an O/O)
I have only local exp, and it will be (in dec) 3 1/2 years since i drove for anyone so i might be FORCED to take a refresher (i go to my old job all the time and jump in 27' pups and park them just to help out a buddy, but i know that isnt the same) -
Is there alot of "company" work pulling tankers or is it mostly O/O work?
