tarp pay

    flatbedd is a cakewalk. it's tarping load after load FOR FREE in the winter. no thank you.

    Yes that is true for a driver who is not buying fuel.

    Nobody should expect to make their $20+/hr "driving wage" for every minute of their 14 hour day. Contrary to what many drivers seem to believe, they don't get paid to drive. They get paid to move that load from point A to point B legally, safely and without damage.

    This is why I don't want to flat rate the tarp pay or roll it into their mileage pay. I know no matter how much I pay them per mile, somebody will whine about how they don't get paid enough to tarp..

    Some places can't or just plain don't want to lift them up there for you.

    I love some of the places we tarp at on a regular basis. They put them on with an overhead crane. All I have to do is roll them out

    The only thing with the mile pay is if you don't tarp for lets say 2500 mile and then TARP one load then go a week without again you make out like a bandit. This is my theory as a company man.

    My theory as a company man is haul stuff that doesnt need tarping. I am leaving next week with a 14'x70' silo, I know they won't make me tarp that.

    on the contrary. i get paid to drive.

    i don't get paid to tarp or strap or load or unload. i get paid to drive ONLY. and that's where i make my money. NOT spending 3 - 4 hours a day strapping and tarping. tarping costs me 15 - 20 hours a week of drive time. that's 900 miles at least. and at least $315.

    most loads are pretty basic and only take 15 minutes to strap.

    if the wheels aren't turning. the wheels aren't earning. and neither is the driver. but i'm sure the companies are making a killing on tarp fees.

    The way I look at it, is, I am paid to deliver the load, at a particular place, by a particular time. I do what I have to do, to get it there on time with no damage. I have tarped loads before that were not required to be tarped because I could tell the load would be damaged. I hope to get money for doing so, if not, ni modo!
