'01 48' Trans. - As I bring on O/O's and find one that wants to move to flatbed I will likely sell them this one and get something newer or step.

    American-Trucker Thanks this.

I don't use rope, I use shock cord. It's better and faster than bungees, and holds your tarps tighter. You can pick up a roll from any tarp supply place. To make it effective you need rope hooks on your trailer.

I have hauled that insulation like you are talking about and can fully tarp it in about a half an hour.

This is what I was talking about. So do you just run the cord thru the D rings down the whole side then just start pulling them down?

I reckon you didn't load at Pevely Mo. for Dow. They will have you put a small tarp on before putting the front section on your trailer. On our 53' flat, we have plenty of room so the load is shifted back from the headboards. If your headboard is just a straight up board you can slip a couple of two inch straps in a x-form in the front. put this on the outside of the tarps and it will also control the ballooning.

We have several customers that we have to tarp the headboard with the load. There is also a step on the headboard with more possible sharp spots to deal with. P I T A ! The company has recently decided to phase out headboards and install racks.

That is exactly what you do. Unlike bungees, the shock cord is always an exact fit.

Use shock cord and buy it in 500 ft roll. Lasts a long time and easy to tie down. Terminae it every 10 ft on the tarp. Use tarp strap on the rear so it holds tight and ice doesnt build on it as bad so it seems. I hate headboard and threw mine away after 1 trip. Can't haul 60 ft beams on a headboarded trailer. The Watkins-Shepard truck pic is OK but why don't you shrink it. Mine is prettier and not a co. truck.

Hung front flap over bulkhead once. The 2 vertical I-beams on the bulkhead left a 4" air gap between the tarp and the bulkhead. Wind got in there and tore up my flap.

The details of the story are that another driver waited around to run with me, he drove real fast (75 mph) where I normally drive around 60. So the speed we ran is probably why my tarp tore up.

    I repaired tarp myself.
    8 ft. drops suck!
    Bulkheads suck!
    I don't have either now.

Yeah, bulk is going to go very soon. Not sure if I can dump it after this trip as I will need to add a box on trailer for chains.

Shock cord is cheap enough that I am going to give it a try. Looked at a load with them at TS last night and he had platics hooks that he placed on the cord. Now that I have looked at it I am not sure why more guys don't do this.

Sure hate rolling the tarps up but at over $3/mile on 600 mile load I will take the extra work.
