Tarp Rebar...? Why

We tarp grader blade cutting edges. There's stickers on them that need to stay put. Easiest tarp job you've ever seen. Usually 3 rows requiring 6 straps, I use a "farmer tarp" that weighs about 5 lbs and gets tucked under the straps, only 2-3 bungees at most. $75 who can argue?

 

It's weird cause I see lots and lots of rebar coming out of Gerdau in Whitby, Ontario and they are never tarp really... Winter I see them tarped (not all of them tho) but in the non-winter month no one tarps them.. They are almost always very long hanging over both the front and rear of the trailer (probably about 2 feet in front and 3 feet in back of overhang)... They seem like a very easy load to secure because they are all bundled and heavy.. The straps are basically holding them from falling side to side of the trailer.. Plus they are a nice low load... The ones in our area are usually double staked on the trailers (4-5axle trailers)...

I used to haul rebar and like I said it was great to strap... I had mixed loads tho of rebar, i-beams, angle iron etc.. for home construction... So it was tricky loading those multi-drop loads... But the rebar was great..

 

If it is coming out of Gerdau Ameristeel it will be tarped not to mention plastic sheeting goes down first!

 

All the steel that I have hauled had to be tarped to keep the road spray off of it. Now that the season has changed, it can rain cats and dogs and I won't have to tarp those loads.

 

I have hauled loads for them out of St. Paul, MN to Duluth, MN and I only had to tarp them through 4-4-14. No one mentioned plastic sheeting.

 

Never had plastic either, or the one in Cartersville, GA.

 

Were they putting them on a ship in Duluth? I have seen hundreds of them loads going up 35.

I have saw a lot of them loads with the tarps only put on top of the load. They weren't wrapped around the front or the rear of the load.

 

If they are oiled(aka greasy bars) be sure to build a headboard, and stretch tarp over the header, unless you like spending your weekend patching tarps.

 

The plastic requirement is only at certain Gerdau plants.. The plant in Jackson, Tn always gives me plastic to put over my load but I only use it when I'm delivering to a place I've never been before...

 

What he said. I always call the receiver. Some brokers say to tarp everything just they cover their butts that way.
