    1. pull tarp onto ground with d-rings on the upside of the tarp and get it as flat as possible.

    2. If it has an end flap, fold this backwards (into the square portion of the tarp) first so you have a nice square shape and it will where you want it when you fold out next time.

    3. You have a few options on how you can fold it from here (halves or thirds). The easiest method (thirds, IMO) is take one side of the tarp and fold it lengthwise. You are going to line up the outside edge of this piece with the far side of the center section.

    4. You take opposite side of tarp and fold over to the opposite edge.

    5. Fold the next section in the same manner (thirds).

    6. With it long and skinny like this you want to take the end without the flap and fold it to make it shorter. Dont fold it even at the edge, stop short about 2 ft.

    7. Put a bungee under the edge of the tarp at this end. Leave another bungee to the side of tarp.

    8. Go to the opposite end of the tarp (folded end) and make sure to walk on the tarp to get all the air out of it.

    9. Start rolling the tarp up, tightly

    10. Hook bungees up tightly around the roll.

This would be much easier to show in diagrams and/or video. I did find this video on you tube that starts out like I do but I finish alot differently.

    I hope this helps!

They made pretty quick work of folding that tarp up!

I used to have to tarp roll off boxes when we hauled really loose stuff like anything cobbled and I always preferred to roll it rather than fold it, does that really make a difference?

only saw it make a difference if the tarp was hot or if it was cold/frozen.

Rolling a frozen/cold tarp was next to impossible.

If they were wet, I left them all loosy and looking sloppy. First chance I got, they got opened up to dry though.

Thanks guys, you did a pretty good job of explaining this simple but necessary procedure.

Now, the only thing I'll add is if you have a "fitted" tarp (end shaped and sealed like the ends on a fitted sheet) you will need to fold it back to make the edge of the main tarp a straight edge. Then fold as normal.

A "hint" I used was to "permanent" connect a bungee cord to one of the D rings halfway up the tarp (front, midway and back if you're using a full tarp) so that you or your helper can quick hook it onto the rub rail. When a tarp blows off the wind will lift one side first. The bungee will prevent this.

I didn't really like the fitted box tarps. They were a pain to work around the corners.

Yes exactly what MNdriver said.. Frozen tarps pretty much wont roll or if they do they are huge as they dont bend well. When they are wet, lots of water inside so they dont roll tight. When they are dry, they make tight neat rolls and easy to move around and roll out.

Now everybody huddle close. Gonna tell you an old Canadian secret for frozen tarps syndrome.:biggrin_2554: Now ya gotta promise to keep this very quiet. Don't want this in the wrong hands y'unnerstand.:biggrin_25524:

Spray em down with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and alcohol. They won't freeze and snow/ice slides right off.

Remember now, if anybody asks this is just an old myth and don't work. Y'got that?

    Cool it, sumbuddy's comin.

We wuz never here an nothin was ever said. Nuthin goin on here, nope, nope.:biggrin_25512:

Was also told to use RV anti-freeze, the kind you use to keep water from freezing, a lite coat and they won't freeze.
