I agree 100% :) Hell I am figuring out that we truly do learn something everyday. I learn things from being on here and like helping with that load of joists earlier today, etc.

That's the best way to learn! Is by helping out. I've learned a lot just by looking at other guys securement when parked at the truckstop then asking why they would do it that vs the way that I'm doing it. Especially tarping. Most drivers have their own way of doing it.. Learn a lot just by watching and asking yourself why.. I'm not the most outgoing person in the world, but a lot of the guys I've learned from, I was just interested in how they did something faster and better than me and striking up a conversation with them. Even if it's for a couple minutes. Me being young and baby faced, I think some of the older hands give me a couple extra minutes of their time and help out... then I remember the first time someone asked me for help and how I did something so quick... and he was older than me too ! That sent me for a trip.

I always get on top of the load and have fork lift driver raise up tarps to top of the load and I unfold tarps from there.

That bs load right there though on a stepdeck nonetheless f that lol.

Maybe I now know (well in a sense lol) someone who looks younger than me! Hahaha. Okay not the most outgoing person? I can see that. This might be one of the first few longest messages I've seen you post :biggrin_2554::biggrin_25525::biggrin_2559: LOL. Yeah I think most people tend to go to the older folk for help since they usually seem to know what they are doing. I know I do! Heck those are the only ones that have given me advice actually OTR or when I had issues with chaining the first time. I walked up to a car hauler who happened to actually be an O/O and asked him how to do it and was just wanting him to show me one, but he ended up helping with all of them since it was a dangerous area because the chaining area was full and people were parking on the actual interstate during a bad storm and he had me stop with him a few miles down to check them after installing them and then when it was time to take them off too. He told me about a really handy tool too to help with the whole process. Really nice guy! I bet you were surprised when you had an older one asking you stuff LOL but like you said we can all learn from eachother :)

Loads like this is why I would never be a company flatbed driver.

As an owner operator i would charge the moon to have to tarp a pain in the rear end load like that.

I charge a ton for tarping because it's time lost I could be going down the road doing non tarp load. If is its bs load like that or oversize and need tarps somebody going be paying me lots and lots of money to do it.

What you company drivers get for blowing half the day tarping and untarpping bs loads?

Shouldn't this guy have went out with a trainer and went through tarp training with all different kinds of loads?

I'm sorry, I forgot common sense is not allowed in this industry.

Waiting for the day a 60 something year old granny posts next asking how to tarp because CRST didn't show her. You know it's coming.

Well the only way to learn is being a company driver. I'm sure you didn't start off as an O/O....just saying. I mean, you very well could have but everyone has to start somewhere. And sometimes some of the very best jobs done are by company drivers because we need to haul ### because yes, we aren't making much spending the time tarping or if we do a crappy job, and having to adjust and/or retarp the loaf later so we can become more efficient and find effective, quick, good ways of doing it. (Not saying y'all O/O's can't or don't though either).

Even then a good dispatcher would never dispatch someone that has never tarped a load before and let that load be their first... that type of load is not for rookies or super experienced guys ! you don't give that to the experienced hands because they aren't gonna put up with it.. you give it to the guys that have tarping experience but WANT a challenge ... I get it .. They need the load moved and by any means need to get it done... but some companies need to remember why they are in business and who provides them revenue !
