This might of already been said, but I always throw a strap over the outside at the end of my front tarp where it overlaps. Helps hold it down across the top and keeps it from flapping. Even a 2 inch strap works.
Tarping before or after securing?

10x12 Smoke tarp, 2 4' steel tarps, 2 8' lumber tarps, old used tarp(for pieces), outdoor carpet pieces(they dont hold water or mold like blankets do). So reasons for so many tarps. Load of pipe, shipper insists it needs a tarp, or you dont get BOL. Place light simple little smoke tarp on front, 10 minutes done and gone. How long does it take to lift that 8'er into place, secure, and keep from flapping? Load of steel, 28" high 25' long. Pays $900 to go 238 miles, must be tarped. Do you want to roll out that 3 piece 8' drop lumber tarp? One 4' steel tarp 21 minutes and your gone. Full load of lumber $700 for 226 miles. Fork lift guy places 2 8' drop tarps on top for you. Unfold the rear to front then front to rear. jump down and use all of the 200 bungees you got. 1 hour and 20 minutes later you have strapped and gone.

This was a load that paid real well. It was before I bought the 8' drops. I had to use my 4' drops sideways. You need all kinds of equipment to make the requirements to haul the lucrative loads. Everybody has the normal tarps, you need to be versatile to get the most cash for your time. Good luck!MJ1657 Thanks this. -
thanks indeed, I hate to be so dry and to the point but what would you buy then? My next load will need 6' drops for sure but I don't know how long it is... I know the 4' drops can be turnt sideways and what not but I'm still kind of confused with the dimensions of steel tarps and what I can and can't cover. I will get the hang of it, but since I'm pretty novice I just want to make a decent investment on these first tarps
tganks in advanceMJ1657 Thanks this. -
First buy the 8' drops( I dont have a problem lifting the 2 piece ones), then next week get a pair of 4' drops, third week get the smoke tarp and loads of padding. Remember, if you cant buy equipment for your operation every week, you need to look at the operation. This is only to make money, not to make a job. Good luck.

^me too, 2 steel tarps and 1 lumber tarp. I might use a lumber tarp once every 6 months but usually every week I use a steel tarp.
I think the next steel tarp I get, I want to try having a 4ft flap sewn across the front, like a mini lumber tarp.bigNATURE Thanks this. -

We have a set of 6 foot drops with flaps the boss got a deal on. I was all excited about them until I realized they only had as many rows of d rings as my 4 ft drops. Not quite enough for a real low load.

Thanks again yall. This has been real informative. And will help me in my tarp buying tomorrow. I'll post back saying what I got
MJ1657 Thanks this. -
Its fun when we can make it to the second page of a conversation and an argument hasn't started.
Good luck on your purchase.
