Go luck....I don't give away anything....
Like my step-dad use to say when contractors wouldn't pay OT on the jobs.....
"If they don't pay you overtime...Why should they have to pay you for straight time?"....
Tarping question

Don't get me wrong broseph, you SHOULD get paid to tarp, but it is a luxury, not a right. I am not a flat bedder, I haul scrap, and hardly have to tarp. But even if I was a flat bedder, I would tarp what needs tarped, even if I didn't get paid. It is part of the job, so it gets done. I am sure your step-dad did all of what his job required, and didn't ask for extra pay.
Back on subject, denying a load because you can't find a fork lift to put a 100lb tarp on your trailer is just ridiculous!.. That is pure laziness, period. If you can't get that tarp up on your trailer, you should find a different job. That was one of the first things they did with us @ orientation for BTC. Made sure you could throw a tarp up on the trailer. -
Nope...The crusty SOB never "donated" a single day in his life...In fact...He even did the phone company a favor by removing their "excess" copper from duct runs....
Yeah right....Anyone can lift 100 lb on the deck....Try doing the same climbing a ladder and hanging 13'+ off the ground there son....
BTW....I ran ran dump trailers before.....Anyone with half a brain can run those down the road..... -
Tell you what son.....How about you come out to the Rockies where I spend most of winter....You can show me how to tarp when it's blowing 30 mph+ and the snow is blowing sideways....Or Untarp with ice on your tarp.....
How about you showing me how to tarp machinery and not getting holes in the tarp....Or damaging the load....
I'll bet you even one of these guys who thinks that it should take no longer than a 1/2 hour to strap and tarp a lumber load......
I love it when when some kid that's still "Wet behind the ears" tries to tell someone with almost 30 years experience how to do their job....BigSam Thanks this. -

Actually, I have carried NUMEROUS objects just as heavy, if not heavier hundreds of feet in the air, on 4" girders, and even smaller deck joists.. Including dragging welding lead, and air house for the 65 lb nut runner used to run nuts on structural steel. Second, don't call me your son, my dad actually works for a living, and doesn't complain about doing it. Third, you are absolutely right, anyone can run a dump trailer, no arguement at all there.
But the thing of it is, running a dump down the road has nothing to do with the subject.. When I have to tarp, I have to lump that "oh so heavy" tarp on my shoulder, and climb "13 feet", and tarp it, and don't whine about it.
You need to read. I didn't say your step-dad worked for free, but he did what his job required, and did it for the money agreed on. He didn't neglect to do a certain part of his job, because they didn't pay him extra.
Your barking up the wrong tree old timer, if you want to talk about hard work. I may only be 25, but I have been working hard for everything I own for a long time.. When you have a hard working father, he pushes those same qualities and morals on to you.
Oh, and I don't whine and moan like a little girl when I have to "lift something heavy"..
Stop being lazy and do your job.. if you can't, find a new one. period.
And apparently anyone can flat bed, because you won't even lift your own tarps, and you do it. lmao.V8SuperDog Thanks this. -
Oh, and I have tarped a load with 30+ mph winds, in a blizzard.. all by myself, and I didn't have a fork lift to lift it up for me, either. But I guess since I was born in the 80's, I've never tarped a load. Your an idiot. Plain and Simple. Age has nothing to do with hard work. Plenty of you old timers are lazy as hell.

Ok boys let's pull em out and see who has the bigger one.
Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
People just need to stop assuming.. we all know what that does.
V8SuperDog and Mommas_money_maker Thank this. -
Come on son....You can show us all how to tarp then.....
Tell you what....I'll take a machine load and let you tarp it.....No fork lift....No tarping station....
I used to form vaults and strip them....
I also poured track-beds for the Blueline in LA....
I have wet bored for utilities....
I'm no stranger to hard work....
When I ran my low-side....I used to take it to places where Super 10 drivers wouldn't take their rigs.....And I wouldn't damage the tractor or the wagon either....Get paid more than those thieving Super 10 drivers too.....
Flatbedders make their money by "Working Smarter Not Harder"....
You don't get old by busting your azzhat unnecessarily just to have bragging rights in your old age if you should make it to old age.....BigSam and V8SuperDog Thank this.
