I never knocked you for that. But sometimes it takes nothing but grunt work, and that is the only way to get the job done. I take pride in my work, and do everything that needs to be done, to get the job done.

I don't doubt you for one minute.....

I was like you back in the day....Both barrels blazing....
And I hated it when someone like a super or a Veep would say I was "Still wet behind the ears"......

The last load I hauled that needed tarped I picked up in Laredo. It paid $200 tarp fee and I gave 2 Hispanic guys that loaded me $20 each to carry it up and roll it out for me. So I got $160 to bungee a tarp. THAT'S how you work smarter ;)

I get a good workout from tarping (lost 70lbs in 8 months)
and got paid. It's all in how one looks at it.

I have not pulled a tarped load in over a month. In fact I only carry my 24x16 tarp with me just incase I find a load of plate steel at a good rate. The other 28x16 is sitting in the shop. I might get a small 19x19 to carry for odd ball small things and coils. But I will never tarp a FULL trailer again.

My opinion is it should be considered part of the forklift operators job to help you safely get your tarps up on top. No need to be a super trucker and hurt yourself trying to drag tarps up on a load. I don't know any load worth hurting yourself over. Id rather be a well bodied wuss than a disabled badarss.

With Daily Express we had what they called " machinery tarps, 2 of them that weighed 100 lbs. + . Heavy duty stuff. When I went to steel I got some used " coil bags " on loan from A great lady steel hauler. They fit over our coils nicely , were relatively light , but the machinery tarps came out when we hauled sheet , plate , irregular shapes. The reality is you are rarely lifting A densely folded tarp. A liitle ingenuity and you can devise methods , helping devices to unfold the tarp over the load only lifting , or pulling it in increments. A good quality small step ladder, some hand-held hooks like A short version of A 1/5 wheel release tool , some dish soap , PVC Pipe , some pieces cut lengthwise to fit over sharp edges, and, but of course, duct tape and WD40 ! Rags and tape for padding corners, rubber conveyor belt sections , old fire hose cut into sections . Improvise, adapt overcome ! Mary , who loaned me the coil bags weighed 110 lbs. and was A very productive steelhauler. Sleeve

We hauled 50+' long engineered wood for 20 years with conestogas, just leave the back flap open.

No problem with wide loads either although I've never seen one pay enough that fits on a flat worth messing with. Just like hazmat loads, twice the hassle for barely more pay. When I can get $4+ for stuff that fits INSIDE the trailer why screw with stuff that won't?

Conestogas are like super singles, whenever either is brought up all anyone can point out is "what about flat tires" or "can't haul wide loads" and neither are an issue for 95% of the people with them. If I see an OD load that's worth doing and going somewhere I want to go I can pull it off in less than 15min. Only takes 2 wrenches and a lift. Takes longer to put the fork extensions on.

They're not for everyone but the "cant haul OD" argument doesn't fly
