I just talked to a tax consultant. I asked about starting a business just for the purposes of deducting my expenses and he said no, basically that only getting the Company to pay you as a 1099 - and losing all your benefits, or going through the big orange company’s “per diem” bull in which - they take part of my pay ( really ?) for accounting fees, they reap huge benefits as others have said, for themselves, my on paper pay goes way down (and as others have said, so would my credit rating and a few other useful things), then- they pretend - and for me this may be the worst part at least psychologically- that they are GIVING me money for my daily living expenses, out of the goodness of their greedy effing hearts, when actually it was my own money to begin with. I for one hope those rich folks - and you all know who I’m talking about - choke on their #### tax cut. End of rant, thank you.

the per diem scam perpetrated by these companies are just bs by paying you per diem they are not paying the 6% for there share of social security and neither are they paying there % for workers comp so they are saving about $6 per day for each driver more than enough to pay for the administration costs ...... it's the result of having mbas making company policy

Victim much ?
Grow up and become an adult
And learn responsibility. ... and economics -
What surprises me, is how long it took drivers to figure this out, after it passed.
I reacted immediately by having an extra $10 withheld weekly, and taking the company offered per diem. I’m already reviewing my taxes. And it’s looking like I’ll get a return of about $5k
You take everything that’s available to you. Don’t let the psychological part affect your choices. Because the never held a job dirtbag across the street will take every dime you leave in the feed trough. -
you do lose a little bit of $ on social security by taking a per diem but if you put the ss amount ---- 10 per per diem day into an ira or just in the bank you will end up ahead

OP, you can report untaxed income AS income with many major companies now. They offer this when you report your income. And it’s easily validated with your pay statements and W2. I do it every year.
If your credit score takes a hit. It’s your own fault. -
If your NOT financially educated and NOT financially fit the purpose of a credit rating is to "get stuff". It's to rent things you can't afford to purchase.
If your financially educated & financially fit it is to gain more Freedom through loaning poor people your money. People who are not good at math borrow money from people who are good at math.adayrider Thanks this. -
Look, I’m not here to pick fights or take the bait from others, but don’t start bashing me because you think it all comes down to me having a financial education, especially if you don’t know the difference between your and you’re.
And if you think survival of the fittest and greediest is a good thing, then why do I have to pay for handicapped ramps right ? OK so you think anyone who disagrees with the new tax law is a commie, great. If you’re doing fine I’m happy for you. Enjoy your wealth and don’t waste your time talking to dumb truckers.Last edited: Dec 11, 2018
