Here is what could happen, because this entire system is screwed up thanks to inaction of the FMCSA/UD DOT, if … just if there is a shift to hourly, you as a driver will be limited to 40 hours and relay driving will increase to prevent overtime.
drivers who wish for these changes will get screwed over even more.
the best thing to have happen is some of what Duffy has said they are going to look into and strict enforcement of the regulations to stop crap drivers and owners from dominating this industry and keeping rates and wages down.

There is something in there about being able to depreciate the value of your truck after one instead of seven or something along those lines
-
Depreciation scales on equipment already exist, heck, you could take FULL depreciation in a single year if you want toJForce28 and ElmerFudpucker Thank this.
-
If that cost is significantly less than what they're paying in employer tax contributions for OT then they might go for it.
-
Even if a company decided to start paying their drivers hourly, they still would be exempt from having to pay overtime by the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.
Truckers left out of No Tax on Overtime bill -
That doesn’t matter. Most drivers paid hourly are still paid straight time. So you’re still not going to get OTHigh Stepper and Opus Thank this.
-
If you aren't paid by the hour it will have no affect on your pay. Just deciding if you do this or that YOU would call X% of your pay overtime doesn't make any of your pay overtime pay. There are hourly pay jobs and SOME of them pay any overtime. Get one. You will see it doesn't change your world. They aren't free of hassle and micromanagement. I've worked CPM and hourly pay driving jobs. You trade some problems common with CPM for other problems common to hourly pay jobs. "The grass is always greener..."

Maybe if one of trucking's 300 strikes per year ever happen?
No, the change in the tax on overtime will have almost no detectible affect on trucking. It's just a couple of people in trucking media's passionate topic until the next passionate topic takes over satellite radio or trucking magazines. -
How about 1 scratch-off lottery ticket?
