You can use your logs or your paperwork from your loads.. I was audited and the auditor just glanced thru both; but, didn’t really count up each day.. no, you can’t use the short form and do deductions such as per diem; but, it’s not really hard if you use software to file...

Logs (downloaded or books) or a simple calendar type diary. IRS will take your word for it unless you get flagged for audit then pay stubs with miles noted along with various other receipts can help substantiate you are typically OTR in the classic sense meaning if you're earning money, you're away from home.

But for local or regional drivers, things will be a bit different.

Is Turbo Tax up to the task or will I miss out on too many deductions ?

The tax software will work but handling the meal allowance deduction is not as intuitive as it should be given how many millions work in the transportation industry (at least HR Block isn't very intuitive)

Yes.. any of those will work fine.. the only reason I got audited was because I inherited an ira when my Dad died.. I’ve been driving for 15 years and only have I been audited that once...
