Or more simply people have no right to receive healthcare. It is up to the individual to provide their own.

There is a place where everyone is paid equally.
    Healthcare is free..
    Housing is free.
    Food is free.
    Education is free.
    It's called .. Prison...

Better question(s). Wouldn't it make more sense to not have to pay sky high premiums each month? Wouldn't it make more sense to just be able to go to the doctor and get regular checkups withoit even a thought of a co-pay? Wouldn't it make more sense to have lower medication costs when you need it because all Americans would be contributing small portions? Wouldn't it make more sense for people to not use the ER as a doctor because of high insurance? Wouldn't it make more sense to be able to get an operation without even a thought about whether one can still afford to live after? One size fits all seems to be an inaccurate description of universal healthcare. Why would you resist something that would ultimately save you money?

Well, if you really wanna go down a rabbit trail on this, here's some food for thought.

Instead of giving free health care to everyone, why don't we focus our energy on fixing what's making everyone sick in the first place. Which would be our food. Instead of eating all this garbage with additives that I cannot even pronounce, why not eat real, whole foods. You know, the stuff that appears in nature naturally.

Then, we stop the doctors from passing out pills for every little uncomfortable thing under the sun. Do we really need to give Vicodin to someone who has gout? Or a toothache?

The simple fact is that there's not enough money in this country (even if we didn't waste it all on whatever the politicians deemed necessary) to provide free health care for everyone, under the current conditions. There's simply too many sick people, and too many quack doctors passing out pills like candy at Halloween. If these doctors would encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle, then and only then could we possibly afford free health care in this country.

Go to the store and pick up any item of packaged food. Look at the nutrition label and read what crap they put in said food. Find an ingredient, and Google what that ingredient is used for, and it's possible side effects. The results may shock you.

Because it will cost me more. And not just dollar wise. Sadly to many are like you and willing to pay the price of freedom, individual responsibility, accountability. You would give all of those up for someone to care for you.

I care for myself, my family, and my brothers. The rest of you can do the same, or not the choice is yours.

Pretty much the system we have in Canada. As well if you are under 25 all PRESCRIPTION drugs are free.
I have had a few operations and not a dime out of pocket, 2 of which I had my travel expenses and lodging covered.

Do you know WHY costs are so high? 1st, the consumer has no interest in controlling costs because (beyond their deductible) they never see the bill. 2nd, because once they meet their deductible, there is no disincentive to incurring additional costs. 3rd, because when things don't go exactly right, people are quick to slap malpractice suits upon the doctors and hospitals. 4th, because even if you DO pay out-of-pocket for your health care needs, NOBODY can tell you what ANYTHING costs until a month or two after-the-fact when the bill shows up.

Get the consumer involved, and have a price sheet. Allow the consumer to shop around for the best value (you know...competition). Tort reform to prevent ridiculous lawsuits.

And speaking of operations, wouldn't it become in the doctor's best interest if he had to ensure you survived in order to get paid at all?

The problem with taking "a little bit" from everyone is that it isn't yours to take. Exercising a Right does not take away anything from anybody else. If I want to exercise my Right to free speech, what does it cost you? Nothing. If I want to exercise my Right to freely express my religion, what does it cost you? Nothing. If I want to exercise my Right to keep and bear arms, do I demand YOU help pay for them? NO. See where this is going? In order to have healthcare, you either pay for it (as in the Right to the best health care that you can afford), or somebody else has to pay for it...your neighbors or perhaps you expect the doctor to work for free? Involuntary servitude was prohibited under the 13th Amendment. You don't have the "Right" to individual benefits paid for by your neighbor's labor.

What would save me money is having the ability to buy an insurance policy that suits my needs...nothing more, nothing less...without being punished for either not buying what someone else deems to be "enough" coverage or being forced to buy additional coverages I do not want or need. What would also save me money is if hospitals could tell me the price they will charge for a procedure ahead of time so I can shop around and compare prices weighed against the reputation of the doctor that would treat me.

You still pay for universal coverage, it just comes out of your paycheck so you never see it. You'd be amazed how many people have no clue how much they pay in taxes each year. Ask them and they say "I get a refund every year!" No, #######, you gave the government an interest-free loan. How much did you pay that they DIDN'T give back?

Ron White was right...can't fix stupid.
