    Nana,

Spot on at Walmart regarding the coolers. I had to go on a camping trip in April. Anyways, the $16 cooler kept my sodas, and meat cold for two days. Out of 20lbs of ice, I had 10 left and this cooler is not 12 volt. Other items I found at Walmart are sleeping bags, sheets, pillows, and cheap cell phones. Before my current one, I had to get an emergency one that cost me $10. Cd players are cheap if you do not have a mp3. My friend works at one so if need price information, send me a pm.

I drive I80 usually at least twice a week. Between the normal torn-up condition and the frequent construction messes I am very accustomed to that horrible road, not to mention that I know many alternate routes when the traffic delays get too ugly. California is not alone in its horrible road though. I was on a section of I-40 I think it was, can't remember what state though, but it was just as bad if not worse than 80. Just don't judge us by our roads.:biggrin_25525:

Oh Hun, I'm sorry! I was joking with you. I'm sorry it didn't sound that way. The entire nation is under construction. :yes2557:

I know our roads are bad, especially over Donner where all you evil truckers tear it up with your chains.:biggrin_25525:

    Nana,
I especially enjoyed your earlier post bout the teamin with hubby:biggrin_25525:
My wife was in stitches....Too bad my wife is near blind I would have her as my partner (advanced glaucoma) For the matter I have to do all the driving.
Somehow it would be nice to have company once I get my start with Swift. (Aug 4)

I wonder if it possible to have her as company during my solo trips?

I hope you are being sarcastic with that truckers and chains comment. Most of the rookies will sit out the chaining waiting for the road to clear...fine with me, I enjoy running in the snow..keeps the idiots to a minimum usually.

If you are driving a big rig..unless you are pulling a set, there aren't any LEGAL alternate routes over Donner, unless you want to add 100 or so miles on your trip from Reno. Don't think about Sierra College on the west side either, there is a smokey that sits at the college waiting for trucks, and he knows length by sight..he can spot the 53' trailer behind the sleeper before it completely clears the hill before the college. 60' restriction everywhere, unless designated truck route everywhere in Sac county, and most roads in Placer and El Dorado to boot. The restriction of 60' also goes from Meyers to just east of Pollock Pines on 50 so no good that way either.

And for you newb's out there, the alternate right now on 20 from I-80 to Grass Valley is only used for trucks while the construction is going..so when that stops and the lanes open up..don't go that "short cut" it is also a restricted 60' overall length. Just FYI!

Of course I am being sarcastic about evil truckers.:biggrin_25525:
And I am a 4-wheeler, so there are plenty of legal alternate routes for me.:biggrin_25522:

Regarding an earlier post, microwaves are allowed in a truck, the problem is that the fuses in the blasted truck are too weak to run the thing and it (the 12v lighter plugin type) just blows them.

I use a Coleman mini-fridge style cooler from Wal-Mart. Works great, as long as it isn't unplugged for a long period of time. I did burn up the fan on it, but I replaced it easily with a 92mm Antec adjustable computer fan and was right back in business for $7.00. Keeps things about 30 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature around it. The thing can actually freeze stuff depending on how hard you run the AC, hence why I replaced the fan with an adjustable type. One of the best investments I have made for the truck by far.

As far as inverter, I do not believe it is a dismissal/termination, but the shop guys will confiscate it if they see it. That was in the agreement when we were hired, so basically employing yourself with Swift allows them to do that. Honestly, I couldn't operate without mine, and wouldn't.
