I’m starting OTR with a friend. His truck, his company. I think I understand the idea that HE makes more money with me driving with him, (His truck is always moving)(providing I keep it rolling wheels down)

If after I train with him, maybe he decides I’m not the driver for him or his company. No problem.

But is team driving with a big company worthwhile to me? I get that the company makes more, but for me, the only miles that pay are the ones I drive. So parked or rolling, I get paid for 4-500 miles/day, regardless how far the truck rolls.

BUT I may get stuck with a person I’m not compatible with.

    Am I missing something?

You don’t get paid for just your miles. You get paid half of the total miles of the truck

True. For example the pay will have something like "Teams split .60 cpm."
This means you and the other driver make .30 cpm for all the mile the truck runs; sleeping or driving.
You are paid twice as many miles as a solo driver, because the solo driver has to do his 10 hour sleep breaks and 34 hour resets and you don't, the truck keeps moving and you keep getting paid.

    Where is your location?
You need a backup plan in case the teaming doesn't work out.
We can recommend some companies to consider.

You would consider once a week both of you out of that truck. That way you can maintain staying clean etc by doing chores relevant to the team truck that isn't done when you two are hauling freight.

Try it with your friend as planned, but in my opinion it takes a special person to run teams. I would have a hard time just running with someone I did not know real well, and even then would much rather run solo.
