winnipeg motor express will hire new drivers fresh from driving school, as they hired me in nov. Its not a company that I will stay long with due to lack of miles, argue to get things done with truck, and BS I have gone thru. They expect the drivers to follow company policy instead of DOT regulations... ie: 10 bunk time even if running canadian miles... the pay rate for training is not great but at over .21/mile its better then some of the companies I looked at getting on with that paid .16/mile for flatbed, or .11/mile van/reefer. I am almost into my 6th month and have a few possiblities in the works, so when one goes thru I am out of here!!!! Although I know there are worse companies than WME
Remember this:
We all have to start somewhere and it may not be the best company, may not be the best pay but it will give you the miles and experience to get that better job down the road.

 

Truck is a big car ,I would not worry how to start and drive solo ,you just need very good GPS and 10,11 hole for weight ok.
Border crossing ,Ace manifest ,Paps and Inbound and outband cutoms forms,its simple ,no worries about fines if somthing wrong ,just your time
I did teams and its a good money but no life ,easy to get on accident ,ack of sleep .
Many dudes are teaming and they are happy ,so I cant use my opinion to jugde but when I came back to solo I was amaized for space I had back again.
Go to Schneider National and they will hire you ,go solo and you have to go go go ,just go go ,no go go no money ,
Very low rate 31 cents /mile so you have to go to make 750 take home

Courtney here: yup I remember last November sitting at the Calgary Flying J, till one driver with one trainee told the company she quit was dropping the trailer and bobtailing back. Everything written upon these pages regarding Winnipeg Motor Express is true. You can actually attach names to the people there that decide who gets what miles and where, Howard the Duck, and Brian the ###########. But sometimes they do get thier dues, cant think of a Government agency that is not now very aware of what they are doing.

 

Hey Courtney.... Yep I remember that and the fact that the safety on trailer was due soon too!!! So glad that I can now say that I no longer with the company.
