My co-driver and I were good friends before we ever ran team together. Same sort of situation, except he had 12 years or so experience and I had none. I had to go through training with a different driver before we ran team since we both joined the company at the same time. If you've been at a company for awhile they might let you train your friend.

As far as if you should run team with a friend, that's something you'd know better than anyone else with your particular situation. My friend and I enjoy teaming together but that doesn't mean every set of friends will. We have a good time on the road together.

Is what you can do is take trainer/training class which I think is 3 days and be your friends trainer providing your company says you can.Otherwise you'll have to wat till friend is done with training. If hes a good friend I don't see a problem with you 2 teaming.

Just have to decide whether you can really share a truck with another person, even if it is your best friend.

As others have said, you'll have to see if the company will let you train your friend once they are out of school and have their license.

If your friend hasn't started school yet, I would suggest you get clearance for him to go with you as a 'rider' for a week or so. Make sure you stay in the truck when you park for the night, only going inside when you need to use the bathroom, to simulate the close conditions you will be in 24/7. If you don't kill each other, then you should be good for teaming.

I teamed with my best friend just for a short couple of weeks while his GM plant job was on shut down, and after 3 or 4 days I was ready to strangle him. Whatever happens just know that you guys won't let it stop you from being friends. Lots of problems occur when one wants to go out on the road, and the other one wants another day or 2 at home. Driving style's also cause conflict. I'm the type that wants to pull out before I get close. He was the type to get right on somebodies butt and then get over. My wife drives like that and I can't handle it. Wish you guys luck though.
