We were looking at Schneider. They seemed good, but we didn't like that they don't have inverters. Being over the road with 2 people I would like to be able to have a refrigerator, laptop, and anything else I need to be charged up. I don't really want to have to buy my food on a daily basis or only have sandwiches on a regular basis. Overall though if we were doing local or regional to where we would be home every weekend it probably would be worth it to do without. I have heard a lot of great things about Schneider though.
Teaming for Con-Way or US Xpress

Wow they pay $50 a month towards cell phone. Hmm I did not know that. How do they pay that- just on my paycheck? They did tell us they go to Canada, we were going to apply for passports this week. I never drove doubles- is it hard? People on the truckload side don't have to do those do they?
-
53' only
96.6% have super singles(I made that up)
20% corporate discount on phone rates.
You'll prefer Canada with their hos/ample parking/small populations. Only get paid for loaded crossings.
No pay for local pickups
No pay for driving 60 miles to broker in Laredo and back to yard in Laredo. -
The trailer I learned at school in was a 53' so that's good thankfully.
You say super singles? That means the team doesn't get a ton of miles? About how many do they get or hours working?
Yah I am not looking forward to Canada. How often do you really go to Canada?
Do teams typically get local pickups?
Why don't they pay you for the 60 miles to broker and yard?
The recruiters told us that even if you are empty you still get paid and get practical miles. They did inform us that if you are empty you do not get paid the bonus for going into Canada. -
I meant the wide base tires super single

Couldn't tell ya.
Local dh = you don't get paid.
If you take a loaded trl from Laredo in Laredo you can get 22 bucks. Just not if you are the one that brought it down.
Sometimes I ask if I have 3 hrs left or somin. Makes you on their good favor list come assigning loads. Lots of kiss ### compliments will get you 1000+ mi loads every time. Those ppl get a lot of frustration that should be geared @ joplin directed at them. Poor Rafael &crew ....though some of it they deserve.
Schneider doesn't pay their drivers to take to the broker ethier (we are neighbors) so albeit usx
doesnt.
My miles are slightly up this year. Prob has to do with the economy. -
Oh yah I forgot they call the tires super singles too.
Well I guess if most companies do that than it is just the way it is. Guess it's a down fall, but can't complain if all of them are doing it. It is good to know though because I probably would of been mad finding out for myself when it happens to me.
Anyone in here teaming?
Worked for USX, Con-Way, Schneider, Werner, May or another company you had great experience teaming with?
We are leaning toward USX and Con-way but want to hear from other team drivers.
What is it like being an employee of these 2 companies? How do they treat you as a person? -
I drove Con-Way as team for a year. This is what we got, when it was all said and done with.
46 CPM 50 CPM Hazmat (Split)
4c Safety Bonus (We never saw this. The only bonus either of us got was a 25$ Xmas Bonus that looked like a normal paystub, we only saw it by chance.)
We came experienced, so 1 Week Orientation was all we got. Agility Test, Backing Test, Truck Driving Test, then we got into a Van and did a practical Smith System drive.
Practical mile pay. and Ne bonus pay. We were also promised 5,000 Miles a week, but we never got that.
Our average was roughly 5,600 miles a week. We would have gotten more but my teamate was unable to get a US passport, so we always got stuck in Taylor MI, or Buffalo NY.
Con-Way took care of us while we were teamed, good miles, got us home (The hometime works weird, we always requested ours in the Consignee's lot before we delivered a load.) Then they have 7 days to get you home.
We were thinking about doing US Express Dedicated for Target, but my teamate quit on me. As far as training goes, it's important to get good training but no matter how good your trainer is, you'll learn new things from day one till you quit.
In the end for us it boiled down like this:
Con-Way - Slightly More Money, Slightly Less Hometime
USX - Slightly Less Money, Slightly More Hometime, Dedicated Routes available.
All the lanes at Con-way like the Michaels and CWF runs are booked up, and very unlikely you'd get one short of working there many years.
Also with Con-Way we found we were running short loads a lot if we got into the NE area (PA, NY, MA, MD, RI) and our Kenworth had the wheels blocked so we could not make a full right turn.zackery2011 Thanks this. -
Great Con-way team info here:

Congrats and good luck. Good news is winter conditions are almost gone. Bad news is winter conditions are almost gone. A little time with a seasoned vet along side encountering winter conditions for the 1st time would have been a plus.
