Was wondering about teaming. Say your teammate is driving and you’re on your 10 hour break in the sleeper. If he get’s pulled over and there is violation on an inspection does it only go on your teammates record(psp, dac), or does it fall on both of your records?
The driver in charge of the truck (on-duty or on-duty/driving) is the responsible party for the violations
I’ve never run team before so I was just wondering who is responsible or if both drivers get violations. Just for example, if you’re in sleeper sleeping and you get a random inspection. If the officer finds something like a tire under the regs for tread depth who gets that on the psp? The person driving or both?
You are required to inspect the truck either every 24 hours or before you drive it. So a driver is driving because he has satisfied himself the truck & trailer is road worthy, according to the regulations.. So if teammate is driving & there is a bad tire it should have been caught by him during the pre-trip inspection before driving. The driver gets the ticket/violation.That is a difference between a Commercial driver & a lazy teenager driving in mom's car.
Technically not. The regulation requires that you be satisfied it's in safe operating condition. Of course the only way to know that is by inspecting it.
Which brings up a different situation. Back in the days of "paper logs", could a DOT LEO ask for the logbook of a driver who was in the sleeper on his rest period? Lots of arguments between yea and nay. Now with an electronic ELD, which each driver logs into and out of for their duty status, can the DOT LEO require the driver in the sleeper to login so his logs can be inspected? If the infraction is on the off duty drivers logs, will he be cited?
