my question is when running teams, i'm not sure on these new rules. Used to be a circle check was good for the vehicle for whom ever was in it. you can switchan who ever took over could do so without doin a PTI as long as it was within the 24 hrs. Whats the new requirements?
teams an circle check?

If you get pulled in for an inspection and something is wrong, guess who gets the ticket? The driver on duty, You are responsible to make sure it is up to code when you are driving.
Mike_MD Thanks this. -
Don't quote me on this but it may be true.
Also, PTI is not required. What is required is that an inspection is done and an inspection report filled out. It does not matter if you log it as a pre trip, mid trip, or post trip. Don't believe me? Covenant in orientation told us all to never log a pretrip and only log it as a post trip. That way it doesnt cut into your hours.
Anyway, it's in your best interest to do a good pre-trip every day. It's a lot easier to get it fixed than to pay a ticket and get it fixed at a scale house.
Now, how you log it is up to you. However, I have found that it's a lot easier to do it legally and just look at a clock for the time to log it as, instead of logging it improperly and having to figure out a time to write down.

I also do a quick walk around whenever I stop, just like you're required to do for hazmat. I don't log it, and it only takes a minute to do. (When I haul hazmat, i flag it but dont log it as 15 minutes because it takes about a minute)
And you know what, no matter how thorough your pretrip is, you're going to have a stupid breakdown at some point. One time the bolts that hold my hood on fell out while i was driving home. Popped the hood for a PTI when i left the house and it fell off. Got to drive around for a week with the hood strapped on with a van strap. LOL.
Oh yeah, I pretrip my car (not every time i drive it, but i dont usually drive it 500 miles a day either...and when i do drive a car long distance i go well beyond the hours of service...) and motorcycle too. It's my safety either way, but if its MY vehicle, its MY money if i ever have a wheel fall off again... -
yeah my question is more of does both drivers need to do one rather then when to do it. I know we need it done once every 24 hrs. an I asked the MTO here in ontario, an they confirmed its only one driver needs to but also recomended the other note it was done an at what time where in the remarks section!

if the MTO says it is so than it is so and it must be OK in the states too. The MTO won't let you get away with anything.

Hehehe, i had my first encounter with the MTO the other day. The super coup on the 401 just east of Windsor was open, and the MTO was standing there wearing coveralls questioning everyone. Was letting everyone go through too, mustve been waiting to make some REAL money. But ok, I'd rather her be going after people running trucks falling apart than giving out stupid tickets. Anyway, here's the weird part: My company usually gets our trailers inspected at the Detroiter before crossing into windsor, and she knew that. She asked if i stopped at the detroiter. I said....no, i stopped at the TA in monroe, MI. She said ok, seeya!
If i wouldve said no she would've done a level 1 on me, i guarantee it!
