Hello all,
My girlfriend and i will be starting CDL school March 8 at a local PTDI certfied tech collage. We are interested in team driving w/ USX out of lexington NC. Do i understand correctly that after the regular 150hrs training, depending on the terminal location, that we may have to drive 6 months with another driver before being allowed to team together? Also, was orientation in lexington a decent experience for those of you that have been there? Also,
would we be required to quit our current job just to attend orientation
or at the time that we are offered a job at USX?
Thanx for all the help guys & gals!!
Teams/Lexington NC.

If I remember right the change is 120 hrs with a trainer, then team for 6 weeks. Yes you have to quit your current job before you attend orientation. I am not sure I have heard of anyone having orientation in Lexington either. You will not be hired with USX until you can make it thru the 3 days of Orientation. There is plenty of info on here on what goes on with orientation.

Thanx for the info Renegade, My bad concerning orientation location. Just wanted to clairfy that i had to quit my current job just to be able to attend orientation w/ no promise of a job offer even if all goes well. Just makes no sense!!! Oh well, it is what it is.

Thanx again!! -
You are not the only one shaking your head when it comes to that one. I see no real reason for it to be that way at all.

Just take your vacation that week and dont leave your job till u have a offer. Pretty much all companies are like that. Before you start at schneider u have to do a in house physical deal lift weights climb in a trailer crwl under a trailer all while mainting a decent pulse. blood pressure check

The way i understand it, when they verify your employment history and you are still employed they require you to quit before being allowed to continue orientation. In todays economy, that's a big gamble to take with no guarantee of a job offer.
Thanx much! -
No, you can attend orientation but you won't be hired until you quit. My former employer hadn't taken me off their active list. I was required to fill out some sort of resignation letter before I could be hired. If they get you to that point it will mean you are going to get hired unless you fail the drug test or something.
